Where do we go for insurance on business owned cars we wish to modify please?
Our business mini fleet insurers will not cover us for 2 GR Yaris if we put Lichfield type performance mods on. Cars are owned by the business, driven by 2 directors.
A number of other cars such as unmolested Elise, 4.0 GTS Boxster & a few dailies are also on fleet.

Might be worth a chat with Adrian Flux, not always cheap but they seem to do lots of stuff.

Suspect you’ll struggle.

I think a cheeky DM to AutoFinesse to see who they use for their fleet wouldn’t be a bad move

I’m not surprised at all, modified car are difficult to insure at the best of times. I think buying a decent performance car would make far more sense, and the directors drive them so I have that right?

No experience, but what about Footman James? Harry’s Garage are sponsored by them and his fleet of cars is pretty large and eclectic.

Try

Pace Ward but now part of Ardonagh

InsuranceJon on here might help

ERS through a broker would likely be an option but there claims service is poor.

KGM through Howdens at Thatcham are who I'm with, extremely realistic prices ( in fact, comparable premiums to those I was paying at Pace Ward 10 years ago ).

Not surprised. Different insurers specialise in different things. There must be very little crossover between fleet insurance and modified car insurance. Company cars are very rarely modified.

Big fleets are though aren’t they? Think of post office vans, UPS vans, police cars, etc. Self insure for 3rd party is not about anymore.

There is always someone willing to insure someone for something, the challenge is finding them..

I have used AF for 20+ years and had a couple of claims with them with no problems at all, in fact they were very good over a dispute with the bodyshop for one.

It's the crossover that as Twig says that is the main problem and trying to find out which Insurer may be willing to cover modified " company cars " will be painful.
Either go to a broker ( Howdens in Thatcham ( the old A Plan ) is a good idea ) or google specialist Fleet /small company brokers and let them do all the work.

There's a big difference between a company modifying vans and cars in order to carry out their trade, which may well be acceptable, and modifying already fast cars just to wring extra performance out of it.

Most people with co cars don't own the company, and aren't allowed to modify their car even if they wanted to. Most co owners with a company car have, to be blunt, outgrown this stuff. The demand for modified co car insurance must be tiny. So with no demand, there's little or no supply.

There is always supply. Is supply easily found? Maybe not but there is always someone willing to insure something for the right amount of money.
