Vauxhall confirms 280hp Mokka GSE pricing

Alcon brakes, limited-slip diff, hydraulic bump stops all included - and it's eligible for the Electric Car Grant


If there’s one thing guaranteed with a hot Vauxhall, regardless of shape or power source, it’s good value. The Australian VXRs were always scandalously cheap, and old VXR hot hatches tended to pack in a whole lot of fancy hardware for not much cash. The trend now looks to be continuing with the new Mokka GSE, because it costs £36,995; or, with the new Electric Car Grant, £35,495. Bang on EV hot hatch money, basically, with the Alpine A290 GTS at £37,500. It’s thousands less than the mechanically similar Alfa Junior Elettrica 280 Veloce, which starts at £42,305.

Encouragingly, too, all the stuff that makes a GSE sound good on paper - the Torsen limited-slip diff, the new dampers, a rear anti-roll bar, Alcon front brakes - is all included in the price. The only options announced thus far are a body coloured instead of a black one (for free) and a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tyres; they cost a hundred quid, and add eight miles of range (so 209 in total) compared to the standard, stickier Michelin Pilot Sport EV rubber. Which keeps things simple, at least. 

With 280hp and 254lb ft, the GSE is capable of 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and 124mph - Mini JCW sort of speed. Additional kit includes bespoke GSE front wishbone bushings, a unique front suspension knuckle and 20-inch wheels. Plus all the trimmings of a flagship fast car: Alcantara bucket seats, aluminium pedals, stickers, sporty bumpers and GSE Performance pages in the infotainment. The Mokka can charge at up to 100kW, and offers up Vehicle To Load capability with an adapter. 

Steve Catlin, Vauxhall MD, said: “The Mokka GSE combines the perfect blend of power, driving fun, and exceptional value. Drawing on years of electric motorsport expertise, customers can experience exhilarating rally-inspired performance and dynamics in their daily driving without compromising on comfort or practicality, while remaining attainable as performance Vauxhall models have always been.” First deliveries are expected before the end of 2025.

Very nice, but look up the depreciation on a "normal" fully electric Mokka. Eye watering.

This looks like a winner to me.

It’s a smart looking thing, well priced. I suspect they will shift rather a lot of them.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3?

We're on to Asy 6 now, and it's generally accepted that the baseline Asy 5/6 sit between a Pilot Sport 4 and a 4S in terms of stick... Odd.

Probably will sell a lot through company car schemes or motability, but I just can't imagine many buying it with their own cash.

Vat is 20% of the price so used its what sub 30k after a year which is affordable to many.

Add in the fact that the hotel that I stayed in at the weeked wanted 85 pence a KwH for a 50 KW charger, whereas the local petrol station wanted £1.30 a litre and it simply makes no econmic sense at all, let alone the hassle factor.

Aarrgghh the wheels!

It always amazes me just how awful a set of wheels can be, are these things pre-crashed or some sort of jarring juxtaposition design language a 3 year old came up with.

Have you heard of charging at home smile
Public charging is the minority charging method for most people. If you need public charging often then singing up (free) to Electroverse gets you a discount on that price, and you can sub monthly to get a ~60% discount on that price.

Also, public charging this car is only around £8 more expensive per 100 miles, than it costs to fuel an equivalent powered fuel car. So not that much more expensive. The rest of the time, charging at home, will be massively cheaper

Thats not really a factor though.....most don't charge at 86p / Kw, most charge at 7p.....So assuming a12k miles a year, that would save around 1.5k in fuel.

Primer grey aside that does look rather nice. Though I'd wait it out for the e-208 GTI.
