Autocar article
Autocar says that Renault 5 prices could reduce by 'up to' 15% if EU introduces Kei car style laws.
Bit of a stretch between quotes in the article and the headline, but won't do anything for residuals or current sales if true.

I think this would be a real positive move in reducing regulation moving into the future to allow the up take of small EVs.

Would impact any UK manufacturers too, if we want to sell into the EU presumably?

Good for European car manufacturing and good for the consumer Just hope the EU would accept MINI and Nissan seeing as their supply chains are probably distributed throughout Europe too.

Looks like the EU has realised that allowing the importation of lots of cheap Chinese-built EVs isn't necessarily a good thing for manufacturing in the EU.

Slightly ironic that the boss of Renault is commenting on this, given that the Dacia Spring is built in China.

Kei car rules can't come soon enough, after decades of car bloat it should be discouraged; the average car is now quite a bit larger compared to last century and it's bad for congestion, drivers' wallets and the environment.

I agree, saw a new ffrr today and it was huge, and the bloke driving it didnt have a clue. The sooner cars are smaller the better

Which is exactly why it is a futile exercise unless you ban the Chinese from importing them. If you don’t they’ll just make their own, cheaper versions.

This is the Honda N Box - Japan’s best selling “car”.

BYD have just revealed their Kei car sized EV for Japan.

If the Kei car rules in Japan don’t stop the Chinese have a go then how will European rules do it?
