2026 McLaren F1 car up for auction. $10-12 Million est
Discussion
This had me confused.
How can they auction off a car on 5th December 2025 that hasn't even been built let alone turned a wheel yet?
Becomes a bit clearer.
So for your millions of $$$ you will receive a 2026 car driven by Norris or Piastri, but you'll have to wait til 2028 to receive it.
"The winning bidder will receive either Lando Norris’ or Oscar Piastri’s chassis, to be delivered at the end of the first quarter of 2028, with a 2025 show car available on lease prior to arrival"
but hey, you can lease a 2025 show car in the mean time.
What a strange way of doing things.

It allows McLaren to retain control of the car and any IP presumably. Looks like a cunning way of securing an extra $12m+ of funding.
I recall seeing a few-seasons-old privately owned Ferrari F1 car at a Ferrari dealer; they were still surprisingly cagey about it and would not allow close-up pics.
I imagine if you were the lucky bidder they would bring it to events for you, support it, and you'd drive it, then it would be whisked away again. You'd certainly be the envy of all your mates at a track day...

Bit weird to be auctioning it in advance of its construction and use. Wonder if there's a cost cap fiddle to be had by being able to show they have already sold it on so that revenue can be netted off against the spend
surely McLaren wouldn't cheat..... i mean 'bend the rules' in such a way would they? They've never done anything untowards like that before have they now.
