Are any Autoglass branches actually a proper workshop? They all appear to be a container or an umbrella in a random car park.

Don't get me wrong, if they job's done well then I don't care, but in this weather the thought of trying to keep a car and clean while there is no screen doesn't sit right - and I've been told they can't do it kerbside (and use my garage) and has to be taken to a branch.

So, if anyone knows a branch which is actually has a nice clean workshop space rather than a wet soggy tent then please let me know so I can arrange to go there.

(I'm actually secretly pleased that they cancelled my appointment as soon as I got there this morning so they weren't working on it with the wind and rain we were having)

Most windscreen replacements and car glass applications can be carried out on your drive, or in a safe space (provided it's not raining).

Northampton. NN47EE

Dare say most large towns have a proper depot if you have a search.

The one near me is in a prefab thing with a ramp so they can drive cars in. Aren't they all like that?

Unless you live in the middle of absolutely nowhere I doubt you are that far from some of their 100 branches they boast of having - their website has a search facility.
I’m surprised they won’t come to you though especially if your garage has sufficient space to work in.

When autoglass fitted my screen it was raining a lot, they put up their canopy and used my garage to prepare the new screen. Car was fine and perfectly clean when he had finished.

Several windscreen replacement companies went mobile only to save money. But some cars these days need alignment and settings adjusting for sensors / detectors in the screen. They need a dedicated workshop for this. frown

Mine is a proper unit on a commercial estate, but if it's only a repair they'll usually just come out in a van.

Yeah they won't come to me and fit regardless, as they say it's a 2 person job due to the glass size/weight I guess, and the mobile fitters are only 1 person. So that rules though out.

This was Oxford, but I then looked at Reading too (which is my next closest) and the pictures of that when I just did a Google drive by were just a container and a pop up gazebo too.

Northampton might be an option though. Good to know - thanks!

Either way, won't happen before Christmas now, was being told middle of Jan.

And yeah - branch finder on the site is all well and good, but they obviously don't advertise if it's an nice workshop or not!

I had a repair done a few weeks ago and it was done inside a workshop inside a branch. Drop the car off. Return an hour later and car is ready to go, all done. The repair is not invisible but I am assured that it is structurally sound and the screen is safe.

This unit is now an AutoGlass branch.

I went to their unit on an Industrial Estate in Bracknell in 2010 for a new screen to be fitted.

The one in Preston is a proper modern building on a typical industrial estate? Unfortunately the traffic and the traffic schemes are awful.

Ha small world; I had the delightful experience of being there 2 weeks ago at 8am - from Walton le Dale via Cuerdale Lane and then the M6 (off at 31A) - it took me 40mins! Horrendous weather and bad drivers...

Good unit though; very clean etc

Shame they did an utterly crap job and I'm waiting for another technician to come out and rectify (lots of wind noise, sealant has been pressed through and has pushed the A pillar out etc)
