Motoring Bucket List...

Inspired by a couple of other threads, I am now nearer 60 than 50, partner just taken early retirement although I will be working as long as I can, but I've started thinking about motoring bucket list..

1. I'd love to own a Morgan, even if briefly.

2. I'd want to do a trackday.

3. I want to drive the Nurburgring, cliche I know, but I've always wanted to do this.

4. Le Jog AND NC500 in something truly slow. Sounds bonkers I know but having done NC a few times now, I'd reqlly love to do it in a 2CV Van or Ford Model A or similar...

5...oh, buy a 2cv van...or Model A or Model AA truck...

6. Enjoy Europe, never been abroad as an adult, we would love a suitable car, old Lexus or the like, and just take off on driving holidays...


Thats kinda it for now. I have many cars I'd love to own but probably won't have the time, although I did sell cars from home when I was younger so a tentative number 7 might be getting involved in buying and selling my kind of car and owning as many as I can....

I don't really subscribe to the 'my life won't be complete unless I' sort of thinking, but things I'd be happy if I get the chance to:
1. Hit 200mph. In theory I have a car that could do this, in practice reaching 98% of your car's top speed takes a lot of space.
2. Own a super-lightweight, roofless car, both for the experience of something truly light and of the closeness to the elements
3. Learn to drift properly

On yours, for (6) I'd suggest any car is fine, just go do it. Most people speak some English now, and it's fun and pretty easy to get out of the country for a bit. For (2), somewhere like Bedford or Blyton Park is a nice safe place to start.

Fair list. Not sure what's on my motoring bucket list, having already done a trackday at spa and a big USA roadtrip.

I'd love to do a trackday in mid engined, multi cylindered car. Which theoretically I've already done with a boxster, but a v8 or v10 would be wicked.

Do it.

But not for the 'Ring. For the road trip getting there, the people you meet and hang out with, the farmers who have small, personal-interest specific car museums near Dusseldorf. The young lads who just wrote off cars worth more than your salary and are laughing about it. The middle-aged guy there with his wife and three kids who tells you to get out there and have a crack at it. Helping people fix their broken stheaps in a car park. For driving out to Burg Eltz to walk through the woods and see it.

I did it. I put in a lap, and tbh the lap wasn't really that enjoyable. But everything else was a great experience.

The car parks alone are one of the greatest meetings of like-minded car geeks you'll find.

Yours all seem quite reasonable and attainable.
I strongly recommend you take the plunge into Morgan ownership.
Residuals are strong, so even if it is a financial stretch to get one, you likely won't lose much other than running costs.

For me:
1) Own a Ferrari - realistic aim is a 360 but the ultimate goal would be an F12 (as I accept an F40 won't happen!)
2) Road trip across every US State - I've road-tripped 35 States so far and reckon the remainder should take another 4-5 years.
3) Road trip Europe and give the NC500 a go, too.
4) I don't think it would happen but I'd love to drive a car across the world. I have no mechanical knowledge or ability at all so I couldn't do this by myself.

I don't want a full US road trip. Maybe just enough to run out the Cannoball Run theme

But at some point I want to buy a Willys CJ2A Jeep and do stuff like Moab and the Rubicon.

A few years ago now, I picked up a Dodge Challenger and went out to Norfolk (VA, not the webbed feet east England flatlands) to go and do a guided tour of an Iowa class battleship. Matting the throttle across Virginia wooded highways while Alice Cooper DJs a classic rock radio station for your soundtrack is a hell of a thing.

Something that is incredibly unlikely - spend a day with a Bugatti Type 35 and a Delage straight eight GP car, and possibly a BRM V16, at an easy track like Silverstone where I could just open the cars up and enjoy the engines.

More attainable - buy an Austin 7 and go trialling with the VSCC, whose HQ is a five minute walk from my house, but I'm never in the country for long enough to have a crack at it. If I'm spared, that's my aim for ten years hence.
