Hi Guys

My friend has a Ford CMax, and he came out the other morning to find this. Its like a hard foam plastic. The main beam bulb no longer works (the others do). Is it possible that this is from the bulb overheating? They are self levelling Xenon lights I think. £1500 from Ford they said.

Thoughts please!

Hi

Nope, totally standard. He is an electrician actually, but has no interest in cars apart from getting from A - B and is a total non mucker abouter.

Guess!

The bulb has fallen out of its holder and then basically cooked the inside of the lens. Or there's been a short circuit in there somewhere that's generated a ton of heat

We need to see inside the lamp really.

If a Xenon unit costs £1500 for a Ford goodness knows what an LED unit would be.

Has he fallen out with anyone and they’ve decided to spray some expanding foam in there?

If the lamp had fallen out it would dangle down the back of the headlight.

You expect outlandish numbers like that on German stuff to catch the unwary victim, but a run of the mill Ford, really?

I’m sure he can pick up a cheap used one on eBay.

Hi

Its not spray on foam, its possible the headlight bulb has fallen inside if the mounting was badly damaged perviously, and there are none of the same spec headlamps on ebay......

Tks again

Hi

You mean that the bulb has fallen out of the holder due to previous damage, rolled (with wires and plug attached) to the front of the headlight? Certainly possible though perhaps somewhat unlikely. But if thats the only thing it can be then must be.

Makes my idea of separating the lens from the housing and just replacing with another redundant as the inside of the unit will be toast (and toasted also).

Hi

Mystery solved. It turns out that the car was parked on NYE near a caravan that caught light.

Pic below. I guess he was lucky it was only the headlight that was damaged.

Hi

I know, I said to him, what? You didn't notice a burning caravan? He said in his defence it was 1.30am, he saw something nearby cordoned off, and didn't even notice the headlight till yesterday.

I did say he takes no notice of cars apart from the A-B aspect.

Life is odd for sure.

He should put an insurance claim in vs the caravan owner.
