Full disclosure, a friend of my created this a while ago but it's been slowly evolving and I think it might appeal to some of you for a bit of fun, he's not making anything from it so it's not like I'm sharing it as advertising or anything.

https://burnt.autos

There isn't a vast amount of content currently as he's only uploading the stuff he sees but you can submit your own pictures for others to guess if you happen to live somewhere where you see this kind of thing on a regular basis.

Some of them really highlight how distinctive car design can be, others are a bit harder.

Strangely addictive.

However, I thought this was an Audi Q3, the results said A3. Pretty sure it's not an A3? The bodyshell shape for the rear tailgate looks like the Audi crossover than has the tail lights that lift up with it. Might not be a Q3 but I'm sure as hell it ain't an A3?

You may be correct, and perhaps "I don't agree with this answer" is a feature that could be added at some point to help with stuff like this.

I'll give him a prod but thanks for having a look, it's quite challenging but even more so when the answers might not be quite 100% biglaugh

Got the first one correct. Able to guess makes but not models of the subsequent ones.

I like this game.

Nice game, like it.

For me when refreshing the page for another guess it retains the previous model guess. And there's no fuzzy match on the model (e.g. "Navarra" is incorrect for "Navara")

Same here.

It had me wondering if the A3 had a rear boot opening like the Q5 and Q7.

The answer being wrong is quite Cardle like.

Hey, so yeah I created this about a year ago I think, just as a project to help me learn node/express. I've been improving it over time, but I'm still not happy with the frontend UI.

Apparently I live in an area where there's little for the local yoof to do on an evening other than keep warm around the burning embers of a car they nicked earlier that night. It's nice to see that it's not just myself and thetapeworm who might find some interest in this!

I've amended the Audi Q3. There is an option to report the entry but it only shows if you've exhausted your guesses. I'll look at having a button always visible. The rest though, are absolutely correct. Er, I think.

Fuzzy matching on the model I've just added. Cardle seems to have a database of all makes/models to choose from. I scraped a list of manufacturers from some other wiki page, but couldn't find a freely available database for the model names so fuzzy matching will do I think.

I've also just added a scoring system. It stores your correctly guessed car ID's and score, then doesn't show you those cars again in the random refresh. If there's any other issues or suggestions I'd be glad to hear them!

What an excellent way of learning! Being reliant on a database or webcrawler is Cardle like.

Nice idea that.

Just got a steak of 9 then it got stuck when the first car I had was selected again. Guessing there's not many photos in the database.

Fun game. Needs a “next button”, at least on iOS. Only way to get new car was to hit the refresh button.

Yeah there's only 22 entries at the moment. I do need to look at adding a refresh/next button so it's more clear I think.

I hate frontend UI design.

I've added the report button to the main form now, to report incorrect make/model etc. and there's now a "Next Car" button too.

It should also now display a "Completion" page if you've guessed all 22 (currently) cars correct, and give you the option to reset.

Yeah I broke it. Should hopefully be fixed now, might need a ctrl-F5 to force a full refresh.
