Brabus launches 900hp Lamborghini Urus MINT

Just when we thought we'd seen it all, along comes a Brabus Lamborghini...

Should have seen this coming, of course. Brabus is all about big power, big theatre and more big power, whether with a Mercedes product or something different these days. Lamborghini is fairly flamboyant as manufacturers go, and the sheer size of the Urus ensures an impact even if the spec is modest. They don’t tend to be modest, either. Someone always wants the most outrageous version OEMs can offer. So a Brabus Lamborghini makes some sense. Or rather, it’s easy to imagine a few being sold at 439,000 euros plus VAT, put it that way. Particularly to those in attendance at the FAT Ice Race over the weekend, where this car made its debut.

While the Brabus 900 Superblack seen here is broadly familiar in its cosmetic rework, the MINT - as well as being 60,000 euros more expensive - is much more along the lines of recent creations like the Range Rover Peetch. You take one colour, typically a seldom seen one, and it goes absolutely everywhere: paint, wheels, upholstery, boot, dash - everything. It made for a unique Range Rover (let’s put it that way), and the same is certainly true for the Urus. The ‘spectacular exterior program’ (you can say that again) bulks up the Lambo SUV with additional carbon for the front, back and sides, which can be high gloss, matte, or body coloured as in the MINT. Brabus promises improved aero (handy with 190mph+ potential), better cooling with those gaping front intakes, and ‘an even sportier character’.

The wheels are unlike anything else; 295/30 ZR24s would be daft rear tyres for most, yet here they’re just the fronts. At the rear, the Urus 900 wears 345/25 ZR 24 rubber, which is crazy. The Brabus SportXtra module for the air suspension drops the ride height by 20mm, so it’s probably going to corner like it has no right to. It’s said that the forged wheels ‘ensure an optimal balance of low weight and maximum strength’.

As the name implies, this isn’t merely a mechanically standard Urus with a turquoise fetish. Brabus claims to have made ‘a high-performance version of the biturbo V8 combustion engine specifically calibrated for the Lamborghini SUV’s hybrid drivetrain’, without detailing any specific upgrades. So it’s probably software-focused - an 88hp gain feels pretty achievable for a modern twin-turbo V8 without changing any hardware. At any rate, that means 708hp instead of 620hp, still hooked up to an unchanged 192hp electric motor, for a nice round 900hp and now 772lb ft. Apparently this Urus SE will reach 62mph in 3.2 seconds, and its 194mph top speed is unchanged because of the ludicrous tyre dimensions.

For the Masterpiece interior of the Brabus 900, see the outside: if it can be MINT, then it is. Steering wheel, boot carpet, roof, glovebox, transmission tunnel, floor mats - everything. It’s quite some achievement, really, and must have taken an absolute age; as is Brabus tradition, the look might not be to all tastes, but it’s beautifully done. And don’t forget the Superblack is there for those feeling less courageous…

As mentioned, the MINT is a lot more money than a ‘standard’ Superblack, with prices from 498,000 euros plus VAT. Quite a premium when even the most expensive Urus currently available, a Mansory’d car no less, isn’t quite £300,000. But then even a Mansory doesn’t quite achieve what a Brabus does - they call it the ‘1-Second Wow’ - and that’s what you’re paying the premium for. If you want to make a statement, nobody does it quite like Brabus. And especially if they have a Lamborghini to start with.

I'm convinced Brabus has an issue with their paint and trim department, they seem to only be able to make one color at a time laugh

That is quite a spec and is fairly understated on the outside. Interior has more quilting than BHS home furnishings department.

Looks like a pacer mint. Probably drives nothing like an AMC Pacer car....

I remember the days when Brabus were seen as one of the coolest cars you could buy. Half the Mercedes board had a Brabus car.

Now? Just awful styling appealing to a small minority whole have loads of money, but little in taste.

Who would and why? Will someone actually be seen driving this?

I actually think this is kind of cool if you're the sort of person who can pull it off. So many bland, dark, characterless cars on sale these days. I would look an absolute ***k driving around in it, but if you're some rich, famous influencer who wears cool clothes and gets paid to attract attention to yourself then it's probably quite fun to do something silly like this.

Don't like the Urus. Like this...why not. A Lamborghini should be an assault on the senses. This has just committed GBH with intent...

In Miami or Dubai probably and after about 8 years it'll find itself as a wedding rental car in Bolton.

The PH staffers must be sniggering to themselves when they write articles on cars like these, knowing exactly how it'll be received by the mob hehe

It's not my jam, but PH is *very* predictable in the collective responses biggrin
