Insurance question
Discussion
My wife and I have had 2 cars for at least the past 40 years, insured separately with me has the main driver and my wife as an additional driver. No claim has been made on either policy for at least 20 years so we have maximum no claims bonus on both policies. Is it OK to say we have this bonus when renewing each insurance with me remaining the main driver?

I've read it again (and again). As said above..each policy has built up its own no claims. That's how come you have maximum no claims on each policy?
I still don't understand what it is you are asking really.

I have built up multiple amounts of NCD on having several cars over the years. I use them without any issue, as long as it's < 2 years since it was last used.
Some friends of mine made the error of maintaining a car in the wife's name with him as a nominated driver when he gave up his company car. When they got well enough off for a 2nd car, he had no NCD. They should have alternated each year with one nominated additional driver and built up 2 lots.

I think the OP is saying at the moment they have 2 policies one for him and one for wife.
He is wanting to move both policies under him but use his wifes NCB on the second policy.
He says he is the main driver on both policies. If his wife is a named driver on both policies, she will not have accrued any NCB.He is wanting to move both policies under him but use his wifes NCB on the second policy.
He says he wants to remain the main driver on both policies, so I'm not sure what the 'we' in the op that I bolded in my first reply is about.

Question not quite clear, but your wife has no NCB, you have two.sixor8 said:

They should have spoken to the insurance company, explained the situation, had proof of no claims on both policies and it may well have been transferred. Some Insurers ( not that many ) do allow a named driver to build up NCB in their own name but usually that is only of use if they then request a policy with the same insurer in their own name.
Technically the answer to your question is you as the policy holder and main driver do have 20 years ncb in your own name but your wife whilst accruing the same only did so as a named driver.
Doesn’t matter how many individual policies you had running the answer is the same.
