I am giving my son-in-law one of my cars.

My Vehicle tax runs out on the 31st of this month.

I can do the transfer on any day I choose.
.
If I do the transfer (on line) on the 31st March
does that ensure that there will be no 'double taxation' ?

In other words could DVLA say the my S-i-L has to pay for all of March
just because the transfer was made before midnight.

Or is there a possibility that they will say that I have to pay for all of April ?

Transfer on the 31st and then your son-in-law can use the new keeper slip to tax from April 1st (which can actually be done on the 31st if you really wish). There won't be any issues even if there is a few days gap.

Do the transfer on the 31st and get your son in law to tax it on the 1st of April and you'll be fine.

Thanks; I’ve done that.

Let’s see if the transfer service is back on in the morning.
