Apologies if GG isn't the place for this or I've missed long established existing threads on this.

JayEmm says he's had problems sourcing parts for this Audi B7. I have an older Audi and no local part factors had brake hoses to hand and they'd have had to be ordered in for last year's MoT test. I think Audi TT parts availability has been cited.

I've returned a pattern ignition module for an old Toyota as the potting encapsulation looked suspect and I didn't want to pay a mobile mechanic to come out to fit and for them decline due to substandard potting.

A former colleague cited how well the local Merc. dealer parts counter treated him when he ordered parts for his W201. He later got a W202 C36.

I thought of Spinnaker of Readers' Cars getting a pallet from Japan to help fix his Honda Insight.

It's JayEmm just outputting content and an advert for Autodoc?

It's much the same for any teenage or cars in their third and fourth decades?


Is it the same for all brands or are some better supported than others? I am coming it from a shed stroke modern classics angle.

Proper classics, which were deemed classics when I was a teenager have the established parts support and remanufacturer infrastructure?

In terms of the zee Germans. The 2 OEMs that support their older cars the best are Porsche and BMW

Merc are bad.
Audi/VAG in general are VERY bad. Frustratingly, even for their halo RS cars!

A friend has a Lancer Evo. He said its hard work for those as well. He's forever trying to source new old stock stuff. I've heard that until the last 5 years Nissan were ste for GTR parts as well!

Not relevant or appropriate, frankly.

Serious note; Audi has had form for older generation part supply for a decade or more now. Many owners of yesteryears VAG products, especially more obscure stuff, are increasingly relying on specialist breakers or hoarders - and I've also noticed a recent influx of what I can only assume is poor quality but keenly priced stuff likely produced out of Asia.

For Audi, anything over 15 years old is a struggle. I use Audi Tradition over in Germany.

Most of the established brands generally start getting a few parts NLA after 15yrs or so, maybe earlier if they are particularly bad. Seems to be very model dependent though e.g Toyota have pretty good availability of parts for some 30yr old models but less good on others. Lots of stuff has to come from overseas.

Tesla is slightly different
Korean brands can be worse
The newest Chinese brands, well good luck.

I’d say Mercedes are not that bad, certainly better than Audi.

I wasn't being a genius when I made that stroke faux pas.

Two decades ago I had some involvement with sub £300 Audi 100 C3s. Getting parts for 1986-1990 Audi 100s wasn't easy then. I called up a large VAG breaker in/near Trowbridge, Wilts. and they'd just ditched their 100s parts. Getting hold an PAS pump that wasn't leaking was possibly impossible. It wasn't a good feeling back then scrapping what were serviceable cars due to unavailable or parts expense.

In 2020 I ditched a roller blind rear boot cover for an Audi 100 C3 Avant. I listed it on eBay and got no response.
