Bought a car off a mate yesterday. Got the full logbook and green slip.

Did the ownership transfer and put my private plate on it, all went through fine.

Tried to tax it this morning but the document number on the green slip isn’t being recognised on the DVLA site. Presumably my reg transfer has messed things up, although I can see the MOT with my reg on it and the right car.

Popped into the Post Office but they couldn’t help. Thinking now I maybe should’ve tried doing a V62 and taxing it that way.

Tried calling DVLA but it’s like an hour wait, so requested a callback.

Anyone had this before or know the best way to sort it?

You should have done the ownership transfer and taxed it, then waited for your V5 to arrive and then done your plate transfer and then another new V5 would have arrived.

Hopefully the dvla can sort it for you.

Thanks I had sort of realised this, but thought the system could cope before I did it. Luckily we have another car we can use if I can't sort.
