Fully prepared for this to go against me as is the usual for a post of this type.

Having some work done at the house, which means during the day the car I don't really use and has no space in the garage has to be off the driveway, very few places to park really as all the houses have off street parking and fairly narrow and parking immediately outside the house by the gates would create a dangerous pinch point.

So I parked it down a cul-de-sac which is at the side of my house, making sure to park it as close to the kerb as possible at the widest point. It has been there a week, it's a public road, car is taxed and insured etc.

Postman made me aware of this on the car just now;

The guy who wrote it knows me, I've instructed him professionally in the past, he knows where I live and he has my mobile number, yet he's said nothing.

Here is where it is parked;

Am I being a tit parking there? Everyone has off road parking with more than enough space to get in and out.

ETA the 3rd option.

OPTION 1 - Talk to the guy nicely and explain why you re parking there.

OPTION 2 - Put the note back through his letter box pointing out that you re legally parked in a public road so none of his business.

OPTION 3 - Ignore the note and carry on parking there.

The car itself isn't badly parked but some people get very territorial over the road outside their house. That being said, quickest way to resolve this is to pop round for a chat and explain it's temporary whilst works are being done. Or maybe ask him if he has a better solution. It's not worth falling out with neighbours over something trivial.

Not much he can do, but looks awkward and vulnerable too.

To keep the peace, can't you park it on a friend's drive pro tem?

Frozen sausages. Lawn. Dominate the cul-de-sac, it's the only way.

Guy's a knob.

Options appear to be 1. Ignore him, you're perfectly entitled to park there and there seem to be very little "inconvenience" going by your photo. 2. Go see him; tell him to mind his own business. If he gets shirty tell him you will put his fanny through the top of his head, (other aggressive responses are available).

Seriously though, park legally where you need to.....are you really going to kowtow to that kind of entitled st?

It's a ball ache to have to find somewhere else to park it, I also wouldn't have noticed the note unless the postman had told me.

I did walk up earlier to see what the note said and knocked on his door but given the time he'll still be at work.

It just bugged me that he's taken the time to type, print, laminate and stick that to the windscreen with heavy duty tape when he could have just picked up the phone or walked 30 seconds up his road and knock on the door.

I wanted a reality check on whether I was indeed parked like a knob or whether the guy who I regularly pass the time of day with and who invited me to his golf day not so long ago did that.

I bet he lives in the house behind where you have parked your BMW...

To save causing any problems I'd pop round and see him and explain why its parked there, are you able to move it back at the weekends or even overnight (a pain) when no work is being done?
Maybe you could ask him if he knows where you could best park it, so as not to cause any problems, any chance at his house?

I know how you feel, my neighbour was complaining this morning as we were having 2 large items of furniture delivered, he wanted them to move their lorry as he had a visitor coming in 30 minutes... they were only here 10 minutes... spin

Option 3....ignore it. (would that be the Martyn Green who was fined £9k for serious misconduct by the SRA in 2023?). He should see what people on modern cul-de-sacced housing estates in Northants with their narrow roadways have to cope with!

He lives in the house with the driveway that's almost central to the picture, with totally unobstructed access.

I'm going with ignoring it until I'm ready to bring it in.

Works out approx £100 a day in VED for the time it's been parked so far as it's been on the drive for the past year, or approx £790 per 30m driven.

Given you have his details I'd send him a message explaining you are having work done and the car will be back in its normal place when finished.

If he still moans then a "get fked" is in order.

Just ho for a chat or call him.

Explain the situation and go from there. Easy peasy

It doesn't seem you are parking like a tt, but given its yiur car that's supposedly causing an inconvenience to your neighbours ghen it's good cricket to look into the matter.

Gotta love "Martyn"... show him good humour and give him the 5 minutes attention he craves so he feels like he's in charge and can dictate to others. Then he'll feel better about himself.

You're parked directly opposite an entrance to something.

I can see how that might be inconvenient for other people who use that entrance if the car is there long term. I don't think I'd be too chuffed.

There won't be any funny business or arguments, I'll go round later and ask him why he didn't just let me know and it could have been solved instantly at the time. Maybe it's one for the weird things your neighbours do thread.

I'm hoping there's no horrible sticky st on my windscreen when I take the note off or I'll suggest I'll move it when he's done cleaning the windscreen. That's about as confrontational as I have in me!
