The best passion wagon of your youth

A thread turned to cars used for first dates , but what about the ones that were great for how's your father.
My first car, an R16, I couldn't insure, so ended up with a Hillman imp at short notice, a real bummer for lanky me when I pulled.
Replaced with a Mk1 Cortina, better.
Around 20 I had a 3000e Capri, same issues as the Imp lol. Even with reclining seats.
Something had to be done, for 100 quid with a dodgy gearbox, the answer came.
Wolseley 18/85 auto, a double bed on wheels.
Anything that is a car not a van that equals it ?

I'm over 6'. Perfectly possible with a bit of thought once you realise that dropping the rear seat & covering the load space with a nice blanket is the way to go.My first car, an R16, I couldn't insure, so ended up with a Hillman imp at short notice, a real bummer for lanky me when I pulled

Mind, I was a lot slimmer & more flexible in the 70s

Absolutely 100% true story honestly.
My first car was a 1967 Vauxhall Victor FD. (MDB 932F) I was about 17. .
It had a three speed column change and huge front bench seat,
Now you could actually take the steering wheel off in twenty seconds. with a large ring spanner, it was only held on with one large nut. There was no electrical stuff attached to it.
So, one night, we were on a dark lovers lane, my mate was in the back with his bird, and I was in the front with mine, the steering wheel was off, to give us more wiggle room
A police car pulled up slowly behind, the copper got out walked over, and shone his torch through the steamed up windows.
My pants were round my ankles, he tapped on the window and said:- "Did you know there's no steering wheel on your car sir?"

5.0L V8 Holden Sandman. 2L in Australia is a bottle of Coke, not an engine.

Not plod, but something similar, and another good car, -mk4 Zodiac Executive. My first car was a 1967 Vauxhall Victor FD. (MDB 932F) I was about 17. .

The Scout group I was with arranged a midnight hike through Epping Forest, probably 40 kids and adults.
In the early hours we spotted the Zodiac with signs of life, a good few of us, turned off lights, surrounded the car quietly, then switched them on.
The guy didn't know what to do first, went for his trousers and pants, the seat lever and the keys in a few seconds, we just f
ked off pissing ourselves. On topic, I get the bench seats, but none are 6 foot 6 lol, that 18/85 with gear change on the dash and umbrella handbrake under it, reclining front seats with no gap, that when pulled forward reclined level with the rears, in easy clean vyanide, I think it's called, is a tough one to beat.
Its replacement a Six Auto with that horrible nylon velour was nowhere near as comfortable on the skin lol.
