Bugatti Veyron Super Sport | Spotted

All Veyrons were special, of course; some were super special, though...

It’s maybe hard to think of the Veyron as a classic supercar just yet, so contemporary - and so formidably fast - is Bugatti’s icon. But it’s now more than a decade since the last one was made, and more than 20 years since the first Veyron left Molsheim. A supercar from two decades before the Veyron launched was something like a Ferrari 288 GTO, for context. So while it still feels like a hugely influential hypercar (because it is), that classic tag feels more fitting every day. There’s even the factory-backed reimagination to prove the point…

While hundreds of Veyrons were assembled over the years, the level of Bugatti customisation means that many - even the ‘standard’ 16.4s - will be unique. And that’s before getting into the special editions, various Grand Sports, Rembrandt Bugattis, Jean Bugattis, Black Bess - you get the idea. Then there’s the Super Sport. Another 20 per cent more power on top of a thousand, further enhanced aero and chassis, plus the small matter of being the fastest car in the world. While some controversy surrounded the 1,200hp Veyron’s claim to 267.856mph (when isn’t there?), the record stood. And very little has ever gone much faster.

In total, just 48 Super Sports were ever made, or a little more than 10 per cent of the entire Veyron production run. Of those, only five were World Record Edition cars, marked out by orange body detailing, orange wheels and exposed carbon bodywork. Plus a removal of the speed limiter for the full 267mph potential.

And look what we have here: a Veyron with exposed carbon bodywork and orange wheels. It isn’t suggested to be a World Record Edition in the ad, but it would be a surprise if this wasn’t one - especially at £3.5m. Or if it is a homage to those cars, then perhaps the rarest Super Sport of all…

Since first registration in 2013, a little under 1,500 miles have been covered. In fact, 1,447 miles at 267mph isn’t much more than five hours driving, so there’s that. Of course, such a special supercar has been kept in glorious condition. And for a supercar that always seemed to be dismissed as a bit plain to look at, this one absolutely smoulders, slammed down on those special wheels and spoiler towering to the sky.

Amazingly, there are a trio of Bugattis for sale on PH at £3.5m. If the very special Super Sport doesn’t suit, there’s a Chiron and an EB110 also on offer. Never let it be said that there isn’t variety in the classifieds. And never let it be said that the Veyron is anything less than a hypercar hero of the highest order...

What costs more? Buying a Veyron or running a Veyron? If you have to ask, etc.

Furlonger cars are an independent specialist, they are a lot cheaper than Bugatti for servicing

Just wonder how long before we get the stupid comments about A3 airbags etc in this thread

The super sport is a truly special car

Of the three Bugattis in the small adds, my preference would be:

1. EB110
2. Chiron
3. Veyron

The EB110 to park alongside my XJ220 and F40. The Chiron as it has the much better looks that the Veyron should have had.

Whilst I appreciate the engineering side of things, there is no desire to own one. If I was a billionaire, this wouldn’t feature in my garage. Staggering performance mind you smile.

Quite agree. Even billionaires get bored of paying £25,000 for a set of tyres etc.

This.

The EB110 oozed so much character. Especially the SS. Schumacher had yellow one if I remember correctly.

Wasn't there an article in evo magazine that stated wheels need to be replaced every 3000 miles?

Bonkers if so.

I think that was if you spent every day doing 200+ MPH everywhere you went.

A PH'er bought the cheapest on the market once, with the determination to self service etc (he had his own high end garage). He managed to change the alloys, which changed the Tyres which made it in a way, more affordable to run.

I was never sure about the Veyron until I saw one in Alderley edge filling up, its presence was something else. Then years down the line, the owner of that particular Veyron took my out in his Chiron Super Sport and I complete get it. incredible experience, everything about it was unreal.

My old man had an EB110. Got the last one made. Pretty much drove it out of the factory as the administrators were entering. Didn't rate it though. He was fortunate to live in a time where such cars were expensive, but not ridiculously so like now, so that he got to own a string of "exotics". Found the Bugatti a bit characterless in comparison to others ( many of which were Group B road cars, to be fair ). Sold it a couple of years later. At a small loss... There weren't exactly a queue of buyers from what I remember....

I wouldn’t imagine so. £25k to a billionaire is pennies.

And me. I find them so ugly. I’d rather spend my money on something elegant from the 60s or 70s. A Miura would do it for me.

After lots of moaning on PH about POA cars, I find it refreshing that this one has a price tag, so we can all dream about how much we have to save…

I did like the SS more than the regular Veyron, but I’d also have the EB110. I have fond memories of meeting it, a F40, a Diablo, and a XJ220 on a car test in southern France in the early 90s. We were on a country road in a very pretty area and there they all were - and the team were happy to chat to us and let us take photos too. My female friend even had a ride in the F40!

It's one of those cars for which I have enormous respect but absolutely no desire. But that's true of all modern hypercars, really.
