Insurance, mot , dvla
Discussion
Hi, my car was written off by insurance as a cat s, I have bought the the car back and now it is parked in a off road garage getting repaired , I received a email with amount settlement etc however there were 3 points that I didn’t understand and after I called insurance to explain they were very confusing about it , my insurance has expired on Monday so at the moment my car hasn’t got insurance , the email said that to drive the car back on the road it needs a fresh mot and lastly I need to contact dvla about getting car registration again, to get the car to the mot centre I need to buy insurance however for insurance to be valid it needs a mot ? And the dvla bit all my friends and family have said the same they or anyone they know have never contacted dvla .? Any advice will be welcome
My wife's car was written off as cat S last year and we bought back and repaired. This is what you need to do:
1: Apply for a new logbook via https://get-duplicate-vehicle-log-book.service.gov.... Select the option "An insurance company destroyed the log book (V5C) because they considered my vehicle to be a category C or S salvage". This will not cost you anything. You will get a replacement V5 logbook with a statement in the notes section to say it was salvaged due to structural damage but declared suitable for repair. You can keep the old V5 if you want or destroy it. Makes no difference, it has now been superceded.
2: As the current policy has lapsed, get a new insurance policy for the car. You'll need to declare your incident whether it was your fault or not. Whether or not it has a current MOT is irrelevant.
3: When the car's repaired, book an MOT at your usual place and drive it there. Once it passes, carry on as normal.
