Latest 911 GT3 RS spied on the Nurburgring

How much faster can it go?

Even by Porsche’s standards, the leap made from the previous GT3 RS to the current 992 version was substantial. The wild aerodynamic features, adjustable on the fly, transformed the experience, with cornering abilities beyond the imagination of most 911 drivers. Everything that’s always been so spectacular about the RS experience - powertrain, braking, damping - took another step on, of course, but it was really the downforce gains that defined the 992 GT3 RS. Somehow it remained enjoyable on the road, too.

What you’re looking at here is the latest chapter in the GT3 RS saga, with aero revisions appearing to be the focus. Partly because there’s not a lot else to see or to know right now, but also since modifications as drastic as Porsche employs to go even faster than 6:49 can’t really be hidden by disguise. See the flics in the front bumper, most noticeably, and more pronounced intakes under the numberplate. If we were betting people we’d say the vents in both the bonnet and the vents look even larger than ever before, but it’s the bumper that looks the most significant upgrade for now. Expect better cooling as a result, plus - you guessed it - a downforce improvement on the front axle.

It’s hard to believe that the 992 rear spoiler could ever be homologated in an even larger size; maybe the disguise is a little misleading here, but it seems to tower even higher. Or is at a new angle of attack, at least. The rear looks less modified from 992.1 to 992.2 GT3 RS, which is understandable - how much more extreme could a roadgoing 911 be? Make your own jokes about Porsche design evolution now.

This RS is suggested to be a 2027 model by our spy sources, so expect to see the full thing soon. There’s probably another gag to make there about the amount of weeks it’s been since the last 911 launch. But with the Carrera, GTS, Turbo and GT3 now having enjoyed their 992.2 refresh, it really is just RS left. A summer spent lapping the Nordschleife to get a new record lap would work nicely for an autumn reveal. Might even help take the edge off .1 values, if you’re lucky - £240k is still the entry point

I'm sure it will be worth the extra cost to the fortunate few

This one is strongly rumored to be the first turbocharged GT3, so expect it to post significantly quicker lap times still.

It’s all a bit much though, unless you happen to live within an hour or so of the Nordschleife.

Agreed. In addition, to realise aero benefits you have be able to drive it fast enough......

It will no doubt be fantastic and very much at home on any track. My neighbour has recently bought his new 992.2 GT3 RS, wouldn’t be surprised if he looks at this too. Ah, we can dream smile

A Golf GTI is already a bit much for legal road usage.

Been lucky enough to drive a few cars with roughly this level of performance and it's impressive certainly but on the road I didn't find it much fun. A well balanced lower performance car I find much preferable Anything faster needs to be travelling too fast for the road before it feels exciting. My wife has a 911 of much lower performance and I would still take my son's MX5 whenever possible.

Question for track day enthusiasts would this be more fun than say a Cayman GT product. .

If it *is* turbocharged, is this not the new GT2 RS? (would be good to know from the spy sources whether it was turbo or NA!)

Looks amazing, and great that Porsche keep pushing the boundary (even when arguably it's already beyond any sane or rational level for a road-going car) of track performance.

Cue all the jokes about Knightsbridge cruising etc. but Porsche RS models have probably one of the highest % of track use outside of stuff like Radicals. People buy them, track them, then sell them and breakeven/make a profit. What's not to love?

Hmmm....

Blanked off exhaust pipes.

Is this the first glimpse of the rumoured 911 GT3 RSe?

With that came on the development mule, it actually makes the GT3 RS look better!

Well, it's not like it could look any worse!

The 992.2 might need to shift to a turbocharged setup to meet Euro 7 emissions standards

I don't think there will be the crazy overs for this RS and like the current GT3 a better chance to order one due to that, although the UK keeps it all very tight compared to Germany where they have over 80 brand new GT3s some offered with discounts of 13k just sat in the showrooms.

My understanding from people that would know is, it's turbocharged but still revs to 9k. Suggestion power wise was 600hp-ish. GT2 is the 992.2 Turbo S engine turned up to over 800hp with a front axle that has kinetic energy recovery (regen braking) but no positive torque (drive) capability and a very small HV battery. The ERS is significantly bigger than the 992.2 Turbo S system hence the need for the additional KERS energy to help spool them up.

Amazing..!!!

Its been fascinating watching the development of these cars over the years, the amount of incremental improvements and now and again substantial improvements to make this one of the most capable road cars ever made.

I can't imagine what one is like to drive...something sadly I will never experience.
