disposing of waste 2-stroke fuel

i have a jerry can of stale 2-stroke petrol mix that I need to dispose of... it seems the local recycling centres have all stopped taking fuel. I don't really want to pay for a service, and they all seem set up for large scale disposals anyway. I have emailed the council but nothing forthcoming yet...

Any ideas how I can get rid of this?

When I had some to deal with I just put a bit of it in the car each time I filled the car with petrol. The 2-stroke will have been so diluted that it made no difference.

Maybe you could put it on facebook, it will be fine in someones lawn mower with a shake and maybe a filter if necessary.

Which is why it needs to be well diluted into wherever it's used. For comparison, it's generally reckoned that up to about 5% petrol/diesel "misfueling" is acceptable.

Another vote for diluting it into your car. A small splash at each fill up will have it gone in before long with no detriment.

Take the lid off, it will evaporate.

Put it somewhere warm and breezy to speed up the process.

If you can deliver to the Wigan area, i will have it. I am planning an experiment on how easy it is to dispose of old petrol. I need to report back to a forum post in a day or two, so if you can drop it off, it would be much appreciated.

Same here, I only had about a pint to deal with and I didn't want to put it in my car so I diluted it in with my lawnmower petrol.

A quick google shows there are companies that specialise in collecting such stuff. Or worth talking to the local scrap dealers as they must have ways of getting rid?

I can't tell who is submitting joke responses and who is being serious. I don't think burning it is that sensible given the dry conditions, and we are surrounded by farmland. I don't want to pay a company to come and collect half a jerrycan. Maybe evaporating is a good idea.

I have the same problem, approx 10 litres of pre-mixed 2 stroke and petrol in a 20l Jerry can. Dump won’t take it so it’s sat here since I changed my 2T for a 4T motorbike. 6 years!

I wonder if I leave that Jerry can at the end of my driveway, will it be there tomorrow

Pour it in to the car you least care about a litre at a time when you fill it up, until it's all gone. Even if it's only a medium car taking 50 litres at a time that's diluted to 2% or probably 0.1% two stroke oil so it'll be trivial.

That's what I did with a load of old two stroke mixed fuel when I had exactly the same problem simply because it's the only practical option.

It'll take effectively forever to evaporate from a jerry can with the lid open, even a wide shallow pan will evaporate a litre in about a day at 20 degrees if you can keep air moving over it but I'd do it somewhere very open or you'll be filling the space with a lovely petrol vapour. It's heavier than air so will settle into dips and ditches nearby too.
