Extra car storage for non valuable cars?

Due to a planned house move to somewhere that will have a decent workshop, I need to tidy up the empire of dirt. As "unlicenced breaker's yard" apparently isn't yet an aesthetic that people will pay top money for, that means moving three cars into storage.

None are particularly valuable (only sentimental value), and none are currently roadworthy. Just projects currently awaiting delivery of some round tuits. So that rules out on-road storage or one of the supercar storage facilities. This could take a year, so cheap weekly/monthly rental is good. I'm already spending a fair bit on indoor storage for excess house contents! I have access to a transporter trailer so I can move them.

What have you done when needing to store cars off-site for not much money?

I’ve recently been looking at renting a lock up garage. Looking at £100 a month for a single garage around here.

for a short term, can you spread them on friends and family members drives?

I considered it, because we own some land we share with my SIL. But it would be setting a dangerous precedent if I stored stuff on it (she's a collector/hoarder and every nook of every building would quickly be filled)

It's possible I'm after a solution that doesn't exist, but just in case there's something I've missed.

I'll take a look for rented/council owned garages, stupidly I hadn't considered that.

After a house down-size I rented a garage from a local housing association but the one thing it wasn't was secure. Luckily soon afterwards I got a part-time job in a self storage warehouse that was!

If they are MOT and Tax exempt it might be cheaper to get classic car insurance on them and park them in the road.

They have a mix of business and private parking, could get a better deal contacting someone for longer term stay.

Storing 3 cars that you care about for a year anywhere reasonable is going to cost a fair bit. I'd try to stick as many as possible with friends, but can you not just tidy them and the area that they're in up and make it look less like a breakers yard?

Find a cheap open air self storage place would be my first thought. The place I keep my caravan had loads of project cars on a square of gravel, £43 a month fee with 3 months payable at a time. Has everything from family heirlooms worth 0 on it to a few rarities like an E30 M3.

Either that or tudy up your current space, arrange the cars in a row and put a decent tarp over each one to make it look respectable.

Realistically, how readily available are round tuits?? Might they be more easily obtained if you had a single project to focus on? Could you address the sentimental element by keeping the plates or a steering wheel to go in the wall of your new workshop?

I rent a single lock up garage - the smallish 1950s / 60s type ones. It’s damp and £140 a month in SW London .

I’d try to find a friendly farmer with unused barn space if you don’t need quick access.
