Why is jaguar, Land Rover in such a bad way, we all have seen the weird goings on at Jaguar, but when you drive anywhere every other car you see is a Land Rover of some kind ?

Forever being at the bottom of reliability surveys won't help.

They "reimagined" themselves by stopping all sales of new ICE cars, tempting people with the 00/01. No new models to lease out, no ICE, no PHEV, no income/revenue, no jobs, no nothing.

Tariffs and a massive cyberattack won't have helped them much...

Getting done over a year ago must have hurt, never found out if the hackers were ever caught.

Weren't Jaguar meant to have brought their new car out by now? never good for the bottom line when you don't actually have anything tangible to sell as a manufacturer.

I'm a bit surprised this wasn't raised earlier, like in Motoring News, since it was announced yesterday.

The cyber attack last year has been more damaging than admitted, I expect, and stopping production of any Jaguar cars altogether? Hmmm.

That's only Jaguar though. The LR side of the business has been the overwhelmingly dominant side of sales for a long time.

They are far from being in any form of "bad way".

Ditching 4000 jobs isn’t the sign of a company doing well.

Sign of new global realities. can't rely on big china profits any more, higher tariffs to the US, competitors leaning on Chinese suppliers. Range Rovers and Defenders still hugely popular but if you don't work on your fixed costs then you won't survive.

Only this country though. Barely saw any in Europe. I definitely saw more Toyota LC250's than I saw total LR products.

A good friend of mine works in the supply chain for an independent company that has Jaguar as a major client. From the stories he tells me about how they source suppliers, and the way management makes decisions, frankly I’m amazed they still exist at all.

Very much the case that LR is the bulk of the business but carrying Jaguar must be like trying to run with an anchor strapped to you.

I still think it's a crying shame that they didn't develop the I-pace.

I see plenty of L.R. products in Europe, especially as I head east and in west Asia L.R's seem very popular. Not huge markets I'll admit but J.L.R products are well thought of and quite aspirational. In certain markets Russians are buying plenty of J.L.R products and driving them back home.

  • cyber attack disrupted supply chains
  • slowdown in chinese economy, which was a profit driver in recent years for premium european brands
  • New luxury car tax in china hitting sales even harder
  • Import tariffs in the US, which is another key market
  • Jag has lost money virtually every year for the last century, and key Jag market segments have virtually ceased to exist.*
  • High production costs in the UK from both labour and energy
  • Massive competition from chinese manufacturers who can produce models more cheaply and develop them more quickly.
Did I miss any?

(* the disappearing market segments in question being "saloon cars that aren't made by BMW, Audi or Mercedes", which is essentially gone now)

I don’t understand why they pulled their plug on their existing line-up before the new was ready though, i cant think of any other car brand that would go on a 1yr+ hiatus without offering anything for sale? You'd tick over the existing models before bringing in the new?

Beyond the 01 what are the Jaguar plans to sell more cars? It seems an age wince they started teasing the new direction, and the 01 is just a halo car that will be built in tiny numbers. Google says a luxury SUV is on the way but no timescale - I wonder if it will ever see the light of day. Hard to see how Jag can survive with no many headwinds and lack of direction. It would be better to save the money, and fix the issues with the LR part, as it seems they are still popular at least to new customers, and loyal ones not sick of breakdowns.

So JLR in trouble because they are looking to cut 4000 staff, it must be the end of the road etc …. Meanwhile BW look at cutting 50,000 and nobody cares less. Everyone loves to bash JLR but VW ain’t no better.

Maybe the reverse is the case on ARD or ZDF (I had to google what the German equivalent of the BBC was)?
