Modified Car Insurance

Im trying to buy a B5 S4 avant with a stage 3 remap along with uprated brakes and suspension. Ive had a quote to insure it at £1500 from Adrian Flux.

Im a 60 year old living in a low crime area, the car would be in a secure garage, 5000 miles pa.

Is this normal, or am I talking to the wrong insurer?

I've got 5 vehilces, 3 of them performance cars, one of which is a very modified Evo 8 all for less than £1300 with Howdens. Has to be through the Thatcham branch. The Evo on it's own was only £300.

OP - I have a stage 2 tuned car with a Hi flow cat and full Cobra exhaust which has a remote control valve, along with some internal modifications which are all noted and my insurance is only £600 a year, I am 60yo as well...as previously said you need to shop around me thinks..

My 2015 M235i has had the Birds fettling treatment which gave it a remap and new suspension/diff. I'm in my forties and live in Surrey, the car is garaged and I also do around 5000 miles pa. All mods disclosed, Chris Knott managed to get me a policy for £600 pa. £1500 is taking the piss. Do you have any health issues like diabetes, or previous endorsements or claims that might be skewing the quote?

My BMW Z4M Coupe has a few minor mods like coil-overs and a strut brace but the engine is stock.

I alternated between Adrian Flux and Chris Knott for a few years (neither ever offered a competitive renewal price) but this year went with Howden's (formerly A Plan) through their Thatcham office which has schemes for modified cars and got a better price from them despite having been awarded 3 points!

I’ve used Howdens Thatcham branch ( formerly A plan) for years for my modified R53 mini

Greenlight, A-plan, Keith Michaels, safely insured.

I've had odd ball JDM cars, to full race spec hot hatches with 1 seat and never had an issue getting reasonable quotes from the above.

Flux can be hit or miss, need to call about. Some more specialist insurers require you to have 1 years experience in a similar car.
