Hi all,

Just had my AA policy renewed. (Member 35 years)

In the Renewal pack, there was a leaflet pushing their "Accident assist" scheme.

They say, if you have a bump, use them, NOT my insurance company (LV) because:-

No policy excess to pay UP FRONT

Vehicle recovery by the AA

Lifetime guarantee on repair workmanship

Like for like car provided, (If not at fault)

THEY will deal with the insurance companies.

I am free to choose my repairer.

Personally, I would rather deal with my own insurer who have a first class reputation. This seems to be going around the houses, and LV might not like them being involved,

I am wondering what is in it for the AA in all of this?

I have not had an accident btw, and have full maximum protected NCB.

You have survived 35 yrs without it, just a scare tactic to extract more money out of you.

In my experience, the 'lifetime guarantee on repair workmanship' lasts as long as that repair centre is in business (7 months in my case, and before they'd fixed all their fk-ups). Didn't have a courtesy car for 3 of those either, as the repair centre washed their hands of it.

In the end I got an independent report done, got the insurer to agree to a 75% contribution to the extra work (on the basis that this was in full and final settlement).

In the end, the rectifications probably cost more than the original repair bill... but I think that's because the repair centre under-quoted to avoid the car being written off and losing the potential for £10k of work.

If you're a member and you have an accident would the AA not recover you anyway? Surely that's part of the service you're paying for? confused

Not in every circumstance, no. They used to not recover at all for collisions a long time ago. They should recover now so long as no police etc involvement. Traditionally it is breakdown cover not collision cover.

If you ring them they will usually assist, but will ask for your insurance details to bill it to.

No.

They will only come out for breakdowns, they say it is a breakdown service.

To be fair, in the times that I have needed them for breakdowns over the years, they have always come out promptly, and got me going, so I have no issue on that front.
