Audi reveals UK pricing for new A2 e-tron

The ideal £100k Audi garage? A new A6 allroad alongside an A2 e-tron...

The new Audi A2 e-tron is on sale now in the UK, with deliveries expected from the start of next year. Claimed to be the most efficient electric Audi yet made, the A2 offering here will be nothing if not comprehensive: three battery sizes, four spec levels, and up to 397 miles of range.

Prices kick off at £32,200 for a 170hp Technik with the 52kWh battery; all models with the 52kWh and 61kWh battery are eligible for the £1,500 Government ECG. Technik spec brings 18-inch wheels, MMI navigation plus, heated front seats and LED lights; another £2,600 buys Sport spec, and with it comes 19-inch wheels, the Digital Key, USB charging for the rear seats plus bidirectional charging capability. A 170hp Sport is £34,800 (before grant), a 190hp Sport (which comes with the larger 61kWh battery) is £36,500.

It’s the more powerful, more expensive A2s that are surely going to be most popular, however. As well as the obvious performance boost, they offer more range and faster charging - as well as comparable efficiency. The 170hp machine, for example, offers up 261 miles, 100kW charging and up to 4.5mi/kWh; the 231hp A2 has an 84kWh battery for up to 397 miles, 4.41mi/kWh and 183kW. With nearly two seconds off the 0-62mph. That feels pretty persuasive, even if it means a £41,450 starting price for a Sport.

S line is available on all A2s, for another £2,600 on top of Sport (or as the starter spec on a 326hp car). It brings 19-inch matt black wheels, a black styling package with S line bumpers, sport seats and a three-spoke wheel. The customer’s always right in matters of taste, remember. Opt for the 326hp A3 and S line also brings progressive steering and suspension with damper control. Edition 1 is a predictably lavish range-topper, with 20-inch rims, Matrix LED lights, electric seats, acoustic glass, ambient lighting and so on - it’s £48,350 with 231hp and £50,880 with 326hp.

For context, the Cupra Born VZ, a car that shares lots of its important bits with the Audi, is £45,995; a 326hp A2 S line is £46,500. An EV3 GT, with 292hp and Kia’s array of driver-focused tech, is £48,695.

“The new Audi A2 e-tron is the embodiment of efficiency, not only through its advanced energy management, but across every aspect of its design and development,” said Audi UK Director José Miguel Aparicio. “From its aerodynamic performance and intelligent interior packaging to its optimised production processes and responsible use of raw materials, the A2 e-tron has been engineered with purpose. It is ideally positioned to meet the needs of a growing number of Audi customers in the UK, while further strengthening our e-tron portfolio.” Certainly there seems little danger of missing the first one you see over here - just as it always was with the A2, of course.

I don’t mind it. Probably my preferred of the VAG group lineup.

Looks a good buy if a badge is important.

Not a fan of the rear drum brakes.

Still hard to look past the entry level Tesla Model 3 RWD at the price point unless you really need a hatchback.

Its a hard sell but badge will be important to many I would look at an MG or BYD at that price point

In the case of BYD, because they have a much better handle on battery tech. than the VAG group.

Doesn't work for shallow folk who care more about what the neighbours think than the quality of what they are driving, granted.

Designers deserve some credit here, clear nod to the original A2 in the styling but doesn't look like its trying too hard to be retro.

I don't believe "how it drives" will be part of the buying decision for the majority. Looks and connection to the Audi brand will be enough.

I think it's quaint how the press still quotes retail prices for new cars, when everyone knows they'll all be leased anyway.

Nice little car but a bit pricey with sliding calipers and drums for stoppers

Looks quite nice to me. Perhaps because I remember and liked the fresh approach of the original.

In a way, the EV drivetrain has levelled the playing field. I would hope that it is now almost impossible to make an unreliable, inefficient or inordinately expensive to maintain EV.

So we now really are left with styling, packaging and a certain je ne sais quoi to differentiate between offerings.

Do you really belive that 'how it drives' matters two-hoots to the vsst majority of potential buyers?!?

Wow!
