Venturi Atlantique- any good?
Discussion
MMm, French with a Turbo charged engine and hand built - Does that answer your question?
From what I understand they are pretty robust and have done pretty well (for reliability) on sports car racing IIRC. But yes, pulled components from different places and I am not sure what the implications would be. Wasn't the engine originally a Renault V6 with a couple of dirty great turbos on the side? Also, it was a £60k motor car so it will never be cheap to run.
Personally I think they look great in a French Esprit kind of way, but fearful of what the costs could be.

Does anyone know anything about them?
I know a guy who had one - he didn't manage to do much more than 5k in 2 years as he was always waiting for spares to be delivered to the dealerStunning looking cars, especially the 400GT, the 'French F40'.

That is what I reiterated.
What has having a spare £17k to buy one got to do with it?
You seem to have an obsession with ownership when it comes to opinions on cars, on every aspect of them right from simple facts related to the engineering that anyone could find out if they wanted to, to personal impressions like aesthetics.
Your attitude smacks of elitism IMO. In your eyes we need to be able to afford opinions. You clearly can what with your car ownership history but I don't see why you have this need to belittle people who can't afford these cars.

Eh? I'm merely differentiating between a owner/driver (ie someones opinion who is qualified and valid) and a boy who read some articles (ie you).Stop being a prat and bringing ownership/elitism into it. You know I made no such intimation - you're as qualified to offer advice on the Venturi Atlantique as I am to offer advice on root canal work.

Who would be a 'specialist'?
There are too few of them for there be such a thing surely?
Further, Im sure if I phoned my local Renault dealer and quizzed him about parts he would just stay quiet.

Next time you want a specialist opinion on Bentley Continental GTCs be sure to ask Paris Hilton. She OWNS one.

Each car I've bought I've had loads of advice given to me by PHers and I like to think I've helped others out on their queries where I can. Unfortunately for me I've only ever owned about 10 cars so can only offer advice on these, you're lucky to be able to advise on all and sundry with your superior google fingers.
I'm in the process of buying a car at the moment and I've had some superb help from PHers. I wonder why I didn't come knocking at your door for any, makes you think.
TC - it's one thing being able to source parts but it's no good when the car is in the garage waiting for parts
broken car delivered to dealer/garage - 1 day
strip down, assess and order parts - 1 day
deliver parts (if on the shelf) - 3 days
assemble car - 1 day
that's a week at best if you can get the car to the dealer and collect it
notwithstanding the garage have the time to do the work - besides, life doesn't always dictate you can drop everything to get the car sorted out
IMO, just like most specialist/low volume cars, it's problems like this which makes owning them such a hassle
