Are there any cheaper than the Restoration Car Ramps on

http://www.restorationramps.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supp...

Those are £250 unpainted, but the ones in Halfords are alot cheaper but way to steep. Are there any cheap alternatives that anyone has used?

Cheers

I looked into this some time ago. The Restoration ramps you've found are pricey but they appear to be the only set that do a decent job.

I saved my £300 and put it toward a four post lifter instead.

We bought a set of these from Halfwits. Only thing is they're not very high - I use them just to lift the fezza high enough to get the trolley jack underneath and axle stands in place.

I had the same problem - lots of different cars with similar issues - short steep ramps aren't very suitable for any of them.

So I had a set of ramp extenders made up to fit the ramps I already had - if i can find some pics of them I'll post em up

Easier than I thought - can't even get a trolley jack under the front of the mitsi

PS it didn't drop the oil slick a mate with a BMW that had a leaking transmission cooler did that!!!

Here's the cheapskate's method!

1. Buy a sheet of 1 inch thick chipboard
2. Cut the sheet into long strips 1 foot wide.
3. Stack the strips under your car to find the number of strips for the maximum height ramp you can use.
4. Cut strips to different lengths so that you can stack them into a "staircase" with a gently sloping approach.
4. Using good wood glue and 2" nails fasten the strips of chipboard together to finish your permanent car ramps.
5. Congratulate yourself on a job well done!

Can vouch for these, they are superb. Got a set and never looked back. Well made and robust.

I bought one of the fattest longest bits of wood (hardwood decking post, i think) from a DIY store for about £15 and just cut into two pieces at a really shallow angle.

This works perfect for changing the oil on my Vette, getting just enough rise at the front end. It also means I can now get to the jacking points if I need to raise it higher.

Wow...many thanks to you sir for the lovely comment....I am really pleased you like the ramps it's a family rum business so comments like this really help.
I started to make these just for myself and a few guys on the lotus elan central site..then it just went from there.
...can I ask how you found us , was it ebay or did you just search on google etc.?
we are just putting a web site together at the moment so I would appreciate any pics you may have of your car on the ramps.

Got em on the bay... Haven't actually got any pics of the car on the ramps, but first chance I get I'll take some. I have to fit a non-return valve at the tanks soon, so will probably do it then.
