Evening PH,

My wife is getting a new car next week. For those interested its a 08 plate 307cc GT with all the extras. It has 10k miles and from main dealer £12k. Not too bad a price tbh ( even though its a crap car IMHO ).

Anyhow, the dealer is pushing Gard-X at £299. Now I know nothing about this stuff, but assume it's a bit like Supaguard etc.

Bear in mind that my wife cleaned her last car twice in 3 years and the last clean was at the service 12 months ago. The last car was a normal convertible and could not go through a car wash. Hence she never cleaned it ( her excuse anyhow). She says that the 307CC will get cleaned as it can be put through a car wash.

If I get this treatment done to the new car and it is put through a car wash once a month ( for example ) am I totally wasting 300 quid ? I am thinking car washes and the friction etc etc

Any thoughts would be great smile

Ebay! If you feel like this treatment is good for you then buy the stuff yourself and save a coupl eof hundred pounds or more

I know folks who have brought the Supaguard kit that way...

Me? I enjoy cleaning the car.. so OK, I'm sad....

Rubbish, a total waste of money.

An occasional wipe with even the cheapest of polish will work better.

Some times the interior treatments are ok, (similar to the protectant you get on a new 3p suite) but as others said, go buy a couple of cans of supaguard or similar from ebay for a few quid.

Gard X costs the dealer £25. Did your dealer show you the video clip with the Fifth Gear Presenter?

It's a waste of money - had it on my last car and after a few months the entire car looked dull as the coating they put on had weathered somehow.

I had to t-cut it off then wax the car to restore the finish to like new again (like it had looked before the Guard X was applied).

In all honesty its a massively hyped up product that the stealer's make a fair bit of money on. Much better paying a Detailer 300 notes and getting a good job with machine polishing/proper wax protection.

Keep the £300 in your pocket, it's just even more profit for the dealer. It doesn't stop the car getting dirty no matter what they claim. Put it another way, if you want to keep the car looking good and don't want to do it yourself then how many mini-valets could you get for £300? Local chaps charge around £12 for wash and interior wipe/hoover. A few of them for £300.

The garage car washes scratch your paintwork to feck so best avoided - personally I'd stick with using a bucket, elbow grease and a decent wash/wax.

Totally agree with the above sentiment, its just a useful way of making a bit of margin on the car for the dealer.

on another note... 307CC (or any of the new style folding hardtops, astra / focus / eos etc.) + Carwash = wet interior. Theyre a convertible with a metal roof you can put up, not a proper roof that happens to come off (if that makes sense!).
