Pic of the Week: Ford Capri Mk1

PH longs to be beside the seaside

It is commonly acknowledged that long-range weather forecasts are, even nowadays, about as accurate as one of Jacqui Smith's expense claims. Which is why it is with some scepticism this week that we heard early MET office predictions of a long, hot summer to come. No - seriously this time. Honestly. Maybe. In theory.

In case you long for the days when summers were warm, and beaches were covered with nautical detritus and green-gold cars, we came across this terrific Ford marketing picture for the Mk1 Capri, resplendent in predictable 1970s sunshine.

Fingers crossed, eh?

Ford re-released our image this week to help promote birthday celebrations for the Capri. 40 years young, and still looking fabulous!

The rusty anchor is there to illustrate how your inner wings will look after a few years of UK road salt.

Hmmm. Let's just say, this definitely won't be replacing last week's lovely GT3 pic on my desktop.

Great cars had a few, Pre-facelift V4, Facelift 3000GT, Cologne arched 3000GT, MkIII 2.0 'S', LHD 2.8i, 3.0 'S' X-pack, MKII 2.3 (yep a bit unusual) and my favorite MkII 2.0 JPS

Lots of fun, particularly in the damp, you learnt very quickly how to contol a slide and as to the brakes Princess / Ambassador 4-Pots were a great upgrade.

Ahh, The car you always promised yourself.........

Remember driving a friends Mk1 3000GT in bright orange, not long after passing my test.. Nearly blew my socks off.

Mk1 was the best shape of all the Capris I think.

Ahhh, the Capri.
A time gone by when we didn't have political correct Met Office!

Oh gawd, please don't mention Met Office predictions.

They still haven't given any explanation to why their prediction for the recent winter was so bloody wrong!
Warmer, and Jan Feb will be 1 degree warmer than the previous year.
Really?
Oh yeah, I imagined all that snow and cold then?

Ruddy climate change global warming freaks, they're everywhere including the Met Office.
Probably teamed up with our foreign-owned Thames Water for this latest prediction so they can get the ol' hose-pipe ban up and running again...

WATCH OUT!
Years of drought lay ahead ...again! rolleyes

First of all sorry new to this and as an older guy not so hip so please bear with me!!! Been looking at PH for a long time and first time wanted to comment but having owned a 1970 Capri MK1 GT XLR from 1972 until 1975 loved the picture same colour as my old one (Fern green) but mine had a black vinyl roof. What ever did happen to vinyl roofs ???

+1 Then perhaps you will understand what some of the other fellas are missing because you had to be there, when this car was first launched there was nothing that looked like this driving down our high streets.

Yes it did have the same running gear / engines as others Ford's of it's time and even those before it, but back in 1969 having just become a teenager it just looked stunning and different to every other car because it was.

As for the anchor what waste of a good pic, whoever took and approved it shame on you !!

Still a very pretty car......I owned a mk1 capri briefly (it got stolen), then i had a few mk2 three litre Ghias and a mk3 three litre S. Fond memories.

The mk1 i had was probably one of the first few to be built, i remember it was registered in Feb 1969. RDD 149G was it's reg.
