Apparently only 5% of the viewers get to see the new version of the AutoTrader website and I'm one of the 'lucky' ones.

I presume its been designed by PH or Ebay as its even feckin worse than the last version, its far slower - to the extent I gave up.

And graphics that even my 2 yr old would think were childish.

FFS who advises companies on this stuff ?

dheads like my cousin who went and did a "Media and Internet Design" course because he couldn't get in to any other course - now he's a "Graphic Designer" but couldn't design his way past a moist tissue.

Have you not seen AutoTrader Mobile then? If you think the main site is bad (which it is- not seen the updated one yet though), then you should see just how bad the mobile one is. Pure poo.

RIP AutoTrader, I'm thinking they've left it too long to catch up.

the "new and improved" AT site cost around £2million to develop...

i am not sure where that development has gone TBH.. the site is slow due to being on a test server but even so it looks ste.. disappointing.. Autotrader going down the toilet.. ?

The only thing I could think of was that they thought that if they design a really pi$$ poor website...

that we'll all go and buy their stupidly expensive magazine.

I even filled in the questionaire and they still seem to think that the way to get more sales is to add even more rubbish reviews etc.

How can they get it so wrong ?

You can get it by adding a 2 to the url: http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/

It is horrible and clunky

Confused now, it was updated not so long ago wasn't it.

It now updates the number of cars available as you pick the critiria.

Has it updated again?

Won't load properly.

Does it allow you to specify the size of car? Cos if not it's just as pointless as the old one. I'm fed up of looking at 5-door Polos when I want a 5-door Mondeo.

FFS. It won't scroll the lists on the mousewheel any more. And it still demands my postcode when I put "national" on the search. And it has huge stupid fecking great pop-ups when you don't put it in.

Anything that pops up that I haven't asked for is a pain. Whether it's a website pop-up like that, or Winamp telling me I can update. Arses.

It's running on a platform called Endeca which is an enterprise vertical search application. In the case of Autotrader, according to the guy that built the original implementation, they refused to listen to the **right** way to implement Endeca and insisted on munging it to fit the look and feel of their existing search.

The new one looks absolutely awful and a clear case of style over substance. To use a mechanism that prevents the scrollwheel working is just plain stupid.
