As above, with a number of "is this style/make/model of car 'chavvy'- I'm afraid to buy if it's deemed so" threads, I get the impression that alot of posters are more concerned with how they are percieved in a car than the fun they have driving a car.

Hence the poll.

Not fussed on what people think but of late seem to be getting a lot of negative comments from people suggesting it is bad for the planet rolleyes or just too fancy for every day use. FFS It's a Vauxhall built by turnip farmers hardly anything special.

Starting to think about something a little more discrete to stop any of the comments. Though if I change and still get comments and abuse, because of how I drive or anything else, I'm a little stuck.

I'm not even fussed about the silly hat I wear to stop my hair from blowing in my eyes when I drive above 30 smile

Last night, I did have an odd moment - filling up with petrol on the M25, someone came up to me and said "Nice car, but not as fast as this one". Since I was driving my Aeon (sub 4-second 0-60), and he was pointing towards a lorry, I was a bit puzzled. Until I read the side of it:

Red Bull Racing Junior Team

I had to concede smile

I don't give a damn. I bought the car because I liked it, not because I thought somebody else would.

I drive a Volvo Estate. I gave up worrying about image when kids came along, although I have to say I do like driving it. Extremely comfortably and quick enough for every day use, if not a scorching track day weapon...

And I drive a diesel Rover 600!

Voted option 2, obviously.

A Ford Focus diesel isn't going to set anybodys world alight but it gets us from A to B and relative comfort and all of the kids detritus fits in.

If they don't think to themselves "look at that wker" then I am not doing it right.

To be honest its not what a person might be driving its what a person actually has under a sheet in the garage that probably matters. I spend most of my time with a diesel.

I drive a 19 year old honda... If I cared about the image I'd be on suicide watch.

The body of the last person to laugh at you for driving a diesel?

As you become more mature you care less what complete strangers think of you, as you realise it really doesn't matter.

I desperately want an Impreza but Mrs Pints insists it's very chav and completely ugly. So, considering she has a very big thumb, my cries of "but I want one!" fall on deaf ears and there's nothing I can do about it.

No, I dont really care what people think.

That said I've not had any negative comments directed towards me about my car, but I have had random people say "nice car mate" just out of the blue which makes me smile.

I think many people lie (possibly even to themselves) about this. There's so much macho bullst about how the only important thing about a car is the way it drives. Nuts to that - most blokes are also after a car that says good things about them (in their view - even if only so that other petrolheads think they've made a sound choice).

When I drive this, especially with the roof off, I get the odd comment like "..where's your medallion, mate?" or, "..how's it going, Magnum?" Its all good fun though and I kinda like it, especially when someone says "...WOW!!! YOU GOT A VETTE!!!" and they make those little devil signs...

I don't care what the majority of people think, but it is nice to know a small group will (perhaps gathered on a interweb forum) appreciate it and what it really is.

When I first got my e36 most people (usually driving 1.2 Punto's) took the p155 until they realised what the 328 stuck to the back meant.
