New 'Turbo-Look' 911 On The Way?

Limited edition 911 'Supersport' rumoured to arrive in 2010

A limited-edition throwback to the classic 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Supersport is on its way, at least if a rumour circulating the web proves well-founded.

The original '80s 911 Supersport was also known as the Turbo-look (or option M491 as any 'Wikipedia-enabled' expert will tell you), and was a ‘grand touring’ 911 featuring uprated suspension, brakes and the whale-tail bespoilered body from the then current Turbo model.

The Supersport reportedly under development today will be a Carrera 2S under the skin, but with Carrera 4S wide arches, front and rear bumpers modelled on the 911 GT3, a ‘double-bubble’ roof (spy-shots have been circulating for some time showing this roof on what are supposed to be ‘next gen’ 911 prototypes), and even a ducktail spoiler like the one on the old 2.7 RS. The car will get a factory power kit to bump up the horsepower, and the supposedly leaked details also extend to the interior, which is said to be trimmed in brown leather with a ‘retro’ feel. There’s even a price being mooted of £135k.

So plenty of details in the rumour mill then, but we’ll have to wait a while to see whether this particular 911 edition turns from rumour into reality. The story goes that the new Supersport arrives some time next year – if it does we think we’ll like it!

The best looking porsches are the old ones in my opinion.

Good on porsche - not sure about price tag though!

Be good if they could do a lift off lightweight targa roof, maybe each bubble comes off seperately.

basically a 997 version of mine but with a ducktail. Price sounds a bit ludicrous though!

You see, if this was Jaguar then I'd expect it to be a tasteful shade, but a brown interior specced by ze Germans.......

Hang on...a 997C2 turbo look that will cost more than the turbo? Why on earth would you buy that?

Isn't that more money than a GT3 RS which also has a wide body?

I spose they are figuring people might think it goes same way as 2.7 RS but I think you'd have a long wait.

Sounds a bit mad to me, the old supersport was less than the turbo and more than the standard c2 and made a load of sense

But this new one unless priced right makes no sense at all, the price just cant be right

Mad, and crap in equal measures. Base model 997 with a silly retro bodykit for a ludicrous price. Sticking 'look at me, look at me, my car is AWESOME' on a boggo 911 and asking more than for the genuinely rapid Turbo model. Surely even the pillockyest of pillocks will see that's just rubbish.

Now, a retro styled 997 Turbo...... scratchchin

£135k????

I'll take a proper turbo with (almost) every optional extra instead, thanks.

That price has to be wrong surely?

New GT3 and an 80's original Supersport with £30k change would be my choice. (If I had £135k that is)

edit to say - Or maybe just one GT2

Are they really talking SuperSport or Speedster? Either way, very expensive.

I really dont think that'll be the price.
I imagine Porsche are just getting rid of the last 997 turbo bodies with the cheaper n/a engine as a 'special' prior to the 998 shape change in 2011
