So I park my car in the allocated bay, as one does. Usually there is no car in the bay adjacent to the right of me. Last night I find a silver car parked next to mine, so close I had to climb in through the window (not a problem as I was pretty close to the right of my bay so that the car to the left has no chance of hitting mine with the opening door. I will just have to park dead on in the middle fron now on)
.
I also find a scratch on my door about 1mm wide and 4mm long it's pretty deep because it was imprinted (by something of silver colur) on a natural crease of the door so the edge took the brunt of the impact. and beacuse of it the damage is pretty small, but deep enough that it's not just the case of removing the silver car's paint off my laquer with a fingernail.

I nerver met my neighbour and can't prove a 100% it was him, so knocking on his door over something so small and uncertain seems like an unlikely winning scenario or introduction, but would really like to avoid a second scratch if it indeed was him or his passenger.

Non-keyboard warrior ideas please?

I think climbing in through the window was a hard enough feat without having to take photos of myself doing it smilesmile

You need door-defenders TM. The ad always makes me laugh in evo as I thought they'd never sell any, but perhaps there is a market.

Well the last time I had slipped my neighbours an invitation to a BBQ, guess how many had turned up?

I honestly can't think of a reason to knock on their door other than to bring up this subject now.

Door dings are like being shat on by birds. Best to consider it lucky and move on or the anger will consume you frown
that's the thing, I can let this one go, that's not the problem, I know I will get more eventually somwhere. the problem is that the most likely place to get the second one is now in fact where my car "lives" and I cannot park it elswhere, next to a more expensive car or at the far end of a car park (options available to me when in a public car park). So I want to avoid the second ding, but think confronting the neighbour is more likely to cause the second ding rather to avoid it. Something that would probably result in a vicious circle of damaging each other's cars. smile

One of most annoying things in the world that can be avoided with the tinyest bit of care!

I have a massive chunk (about the size of a 5p) taken out of my 911's rear wheel arch by some clumsy twunt in the school car park.

Its not the end of the world, and its not like it cant be fixed. BUT WHY THE Fcensored should I have to pay for someone elses criminal damage to my car.

Grips my scensored

Oh, re your neighbour. Go and introduce yourself, get on friendly terms, start talking cars, have a look round the cars, judge whether he's likely to take care when parking near your motor, then take appropriate steps as necessary... Like parking somewhere else if he's a kn0b jockey who couldnt give two hoots about his Nissan Peroxide etc.

and calm. Must have touched a nerve there I think wink

Had a look at his '99 passat, very very worrying find: his door edges, the ones at the end when the door is opened are all chipped to fk!!!, oh and yes though I did admit to being close to the extreme right of my parking space, he/she chose to park in the far left of theirs...

I am beginning to hate this person without having ever met them. Don't think cars would be a mutual touching point for us, nor do I think I can genuinely feel friendly towards them in order to get on friendly terms. looks like I will just have to knock on their door and as diplomatically as I can explain to them that the car is very very expensive compared to theirs and though I don't judge them for not caring about how quickly their car gets scratched, I really really care about mine...

I'll be interested to hear how you 'deal with that'!

I hope for your sake you find that he's a decent chap and not a knuckle dragging twunt.

My M5 recently picked up a perfectly circular ding in the front passenger door and a scrape alongside it. I've already had a rear door skin replaced on the driver's side after finding that somebody had managed to put a massive deep crease in it while I'd left it parked for two days in the LHR T1 short stay car park.

With those bits of negligence, the cahp who drove into the back of the M5 last year and the malicious keying damage to the DB9, my insurers and I are paying out far too much money to bodyshops. I paid for the rear passenger door myself. I think I'll end up doing the same for the front one.

That's the main issue with it isn't it? Sure we all expect the cars to get scratched and the paintwork to deteriorate throughout its' life, but it's the fact that most of them could be so easily avoided if more people took greater car with things that are not theirs...

Oh well it's been like this for years and will never change. I can only moan on the forums about it i guess.

.. yep, I always check the edges of anything park next to, if it's chipped, I move on. Also avoid parking next to 4x4s and anything with a car seat.

Its sad that people just don't care these days. HAd a BM pull up nect to me ages ago when I was at work, still sta in the car. Wheels absolutly ruined which chips and scrapes and the door edge was badly damages, few seconds later ant the half-wit driving opens the door straight into mine. Unbelieveable - I wasn't very polite to him ... fortunately no damage though.

Why 4x4s? my last Discovery was immaculate, as is this one.
