It just doesn't work does it. The round headlights squared off against the bonnet line. 997 was a vast, somewhat generic improvement imo.

You can buy a kit to make them round - then it looks just like a 997 from the front.

I really like them... in fact were I ever lucky enough to be shopping for a 911 they would probably be a reason for me to choose the 996 over the 997.

I much prefer the 996 lights. Can you get a kit to change the 997 to 996 lights? (And the door handles at the same time?)

I hadn't realised anyone actually liked the front-end styling of the 996. Interesting.

I think there are a few companies that do it. Here's one:

The one I saw before was actually just a car for sale in the PH classifieds.

ETA: I'm sure there are other differences between the fronts of the two models too, it's just that the headlights are so obvious that one never notices the others.

It was a bit of a lesson for Porsche.

They realised that the bulk of their customer base lacked the imagination to deal with a 911 that didn't have round lights. Just like throughout most of the 80s and 90s they couldn't deal with Porsches that didn't look like 911s, hence the death of all the front engined cars.

I have no objection to the 996 lights personally.

I agree Caboose, though they shouldn't have shared the same headlights with the boxster. They seem too big for that car.

The 996 lights are OK and dramtically improved once they got shot of the "yokes". I've owned a 996 and personally prefer the 997 lights but it's all personal choice.

this reminds of someone on my road who put the techart kit on their 996, looked like this :

The biggest trouble with the 996 lights is that it makes it look identical to a Boxster from the front!

Although on the turbo and C4s I don't see anything wrong with the front end?

I don't mind the lights, but i've always felt the body of the 996 appears to swamp the wheels, and I can't really work out why. I also can't work out why I don't think this of the 997, given that they're so similar.

The pre-facelift 996 was very nice looking I thought. The facelift lights suited the Turbo/C4S more than the standard Carrera models as a whole but they both look good imo.

Despite being an obvious Porsche fan, Ive never been a fan of the 996 shape either... Until recently that is, when for some bizarre reason I have decided I like it and for the money these cars offer fantastic value.

This could be something to do with my son watching Disney Cars over and over and over and over and Ive developed a bit of a thing for 'Miss Sally'.

Did I just type that. boxedin
