No tools left in vehicle overnight

Hmm.

Now if I was a thief that would not stop me just seeing if there might be some tools in that there vehicle.

It seems every van now has these stickers on the back. Do the drivers really lug all their power tools out everynight then reload every morning?

I guess if it only deters one thief in ten years then it is worth it, so on balance probably better to have the sticker.

I've never understood this either. The only things that's ever made me think it's true is that the person has an insurance policy that doesn't cover the loss of any power tools so they would always remove them.

However I don't think there's a code of gentlemanly conduct among the average crack addled thieves so I don't think this is likely.

I thought there was a little, a lot of break ins tend to go for the passenger door i've noticed.
As if they'll leave you with at least the drivers door working normally

My boss hasn't got a sticker on his van but seems to think throwing a dust sheet over everything in the back will deter them, which he does religiously every night and orders me to do so if he is away. Never understood that either?

As useful as a "Baby on board" sticker, what is the point? am I going to avoid
crashing into them because they have a baby, or maybe because I want to anyway!

Most insurers won't pay out if you leave tools in a vehicle nowadays.

Most companies, as a result, have it written into their employees contract that tools are to be removed from the vehicle every night. There are some exceptions obviously if we are talking about large pieces of equipment!

They're also assuming that the average smackhead thief is literate and not too out of their tits to be able to read the sign and compute the information provided.

Going for the passenger door may be an attempt to hide the damage, or if tha car is parked on the road the passenger side will be next to the pavement. Also smashing the smallest window is possibly so that the minimum damage is caused if they can steal the car.

The only person I know who takes his tools out every night is my uncle and that's only because he had everything stolen a couple of years ago, its costs him more time in forgetting to put everything back in again and having to go home to get kit than replacing the kit did. Most of our stuff is left on site in a secure lock up anyway as its just easier.

I think if you put something like that on your van, your drawing attention to it If you have advertising on your van advertising your trade, ie: Builders, plumbers, its also more likely that you will at some point be targeted by thieves. When you insure a commercial vehicle the insurance companies take this into account

I got sent one of those stickers by the met, after a break-in. Which was about the sum total of their response. Presumably they do it for sadistic amusement, as opposed to, well I dunno, perhaps DNA testing the blood left on the back of the van, or perhaps reviewing the govm. spy cameras that covered the street, although all that would involve getting one's fat fking ass out the station and all...
