4x4 Dealership problems

I bought a 05 Cayenne last week from a well known ' 4x4' dealer near Brentwood, Essex.

I return to pick it up, ask for the second key and told there isn't one (£230 from porsche, with programming) and the sat Nav screen is now playing up. Not happy.

So, I set off today (another day wasted) to return the vehicle to swap out the sat nav screen only to find that the coolant is low. I have to top it up by 2 litres and spot a slow leak underneath the vehicle. I call the dealership and arrange recovery!

They claim that everything was ok when they carried out a PDI check. I say bullst, you're not telling me that the Sat Nav went whilst I was on route to them by train and that the slow leak wasn't there a couple of days ago?

Just another example of how this country is going to st! You can't trust anyone to do their job properly or nor lie to you.

Now not that I'm trying to be patronising or insulting your intelligence, but did you not get an RAC/AA/independent mechanic's check before purchasing as this is a Cayenne and therefore a fair bit of dough has been spent?

Indeed. Or go over it yourself? I'd never take the word of a dealer that everything is hunky dorey on a used car, no matter what assurance they offer or how professional they come across.

I'd at least give the dealer a chance to rectify the issues before going off on one personally. These things do happen.

Im guessing its from a dealer and not a private sale. I would do that suggestion for private sale but if the dealer has already done the checks and given it a clean bill of health isnt it over kill and a waste of money?

Never assume a used car will have its full set of keys. Always ask upfront and use it as a haggling point if not.

Could be seen as possible overkill if it's at a dealer, but IMO if I'm spent 20k/30k/40k+ on a car I will get the independent inspection done.

Yep, it is overkill.

You have a range of options available to you as a consumer. Speak to the dealer in the first instance to get resolution and if that isn't satisfactory, get further advice from trading standards.

I can't believe they didn't provide a spare key though... you can guarantee they'd have chipped the seller a couple of hundred quid as "we can't sell it without a spare key guv".

There are countries where you can trust used car dealers then?
