Why? What? I just dont understand this one....

I see this once or twice a month, and I just dont understand one bit. I'm sure that there is an explaination, a good one too, but I really, really do not see it.

Driving along as you do, and I notice that the car in front has a clear plastic 'wrapper' around the rear wiper and/or entire rear wiper and arm.

It's as if they have fitted a new one, and left the plastic bag on it. Surely it can't be just that? Why would you do that? I can maybe let one or two inbreeds get away with the fact that they are that stupid as to 'forget' to remove the plastic bag, but one or two a month?

Latest was yesterday, a Megane Scenic, seemingly normal, even driving in a regular manner, not your average 'sunday driver', but yet had this bloody lunacy on display on the rear of the car.

Please, tell me there is a good reason to this madness, and not just that the population of feck-knuckles in this country is on the increase and more and more of them are behind the wheel?

I have plastic bags over all my wipers, it reduces wear on them.
I also grease up the rotors on my brakes.

The reason is that in the car wash the nylon strings of the car roller could get stuck inbetween the rear wiper, and rip it off. It happened to my car: because the attendant didn't put the plastic jacket on correctly, I saw the jacket being brushed off, followed two seconds later by the rear wiper :-(

Well in fairness the carwash would have to be manned with a pre wash/bag putter onner/aerial removal bloke. So not as common as I initially suggested in hindsight!

Its because of the new foam flappy brushes they have instead of regular brushes, the foam flaps get caught in the wipers and tear off. Not sure why they dont have them on the fronts tho, must be something to do with the design of the rear wiper
