Would a 335d on the moon beat a Veyron on earth?

I know it is the car or cars, the dream machine of all those who aspire to Derv and by all accounts it's good enough to beat an E39 M5 into yesterday but it's like an inbred second couzine to an E60 M5....

But that aside....

Assuming said car 335d was on the moon and had access to

a) a road
b) oxygen

Given the difference is air resitance etc, could it, could it outperform a Veyron....

Er...no, in a word - not at all.

Air resistance really does not come into play at these levels of speed.

If you want to avoid air-resistance, rather than ship the car to the moon I'd suggest it'd be much simpler to put the 335d on a conveyor belt....

The 335d would have more than twice the bhp per tonne on the moon than the Veyron on Earth. So, if you could fit suitable tyres, the 335 would leave the Veyron standing.

Air resistance is by far the biggest limiting factor in a car's top speed - not wondered why the veyron rear wing folds away for it to hit 250?

look up the difference between mass and weight.
the BMW would weight less and have less grip, but its mass (the think you need to move) will not change.

look up the difference between mass and weight.
the BMW would weight less and have less grip, but its mass (the think you need to move) will not change.

Mass is not the thing you need to move, weight is - ball flys further on the moon than it does on earth.

You need to overcome the friction exerted on the road by the tyres, which is proportional to the weight of the car (mass * gravitational constant) multiplied by a coefficient based on your surface (tarmac, grass, dead kittens etc.). Since the beemer would have a lower weight, assuming you could put the power down, it would accelerate much faster on the moon than it would on earth.
