Something happened last night that I totally didn't expect, restoring my faith in the fact that there are some thoroughly decent people around.

Having bought a car 2 weeks ago privately, the car only had one key. The guy said that he did have a spare and they he would give me a call when he found it so that I could come and collect it. I just presumed it was the usual 'don't call me I'll call you' fob off guff, and negotiated the price on the car accordingly to allow me to get another key and not be out of pocket, which I did next day. He also said that he had a pile of paperwork and invoices for the car that he had misplaced, but again I didn't expect these to exist or ever materialise. I made an offer and bought the car on its merits. He took my number but I never expected a call.

Fast forward to last night. I'm sat there watching TV and there is a knock at the door. Lo and behold it is the chap who I bought the car off. He had not only found the promised key and pile of invoices, but having misplaced my number had dug the receipt out to get my address and driven 10 miles, in the rain, to personally drop the stuff off, and show a genuine interest in checking that the car was all OK.

Many people would have just binned the stuff if they did come across it, but true to his word, that I dismissed as spiel, he came up with the goods as promised.

Such a refreshing gesture. Thoroughly pleasant chap too. When things like this happen it genuinely restores your faith in the fact that there are some decent people around.

Nothing worth bragging about. Just a W reg Astra to get me through winter while I save for a new toy (having sold my BMW on a whim)

I posted the spare key to a car I sold privately after I'd sold the car. I'd promised the fella I'd send it on when I found it and he gave me his address. Unfortunately I was right in the middle of renovating my flat so the place was total chaos, it was 2 years later that I found the little box with the key & codes. I posted it off, no idea if he even still had the car but I felt better for doing so.

As you "negotiated the price accordingly", did you reciprocate and pony up something for his trouble?

Top bloke. It says a lot about this country that perfectly normal behaviour such as people doing what they say they will merits praise.

I offered him in for a cup of tea but he declined as he had to get home. Plus anything I knocked off on top of my offer has already gone into the spare key I sourced the next day.

Believe it or not, nice people do still exist. Mostly outside towns it seems though - can't get over how fecking miserable everyone in London and the south east seems to be.

When I sold my mum's car she couldn't find the other spare key so I knocked £90 off the price for the buyer (he said thats how much a replacement would be). My Mum then found the key and I posted it onto him special delivery. Never got a thankyou!

Same thing happened to my o/h recently. She brought a Disco from a dealer with one set of keys & remote and last week we got a jiffy bag in the post with another set of keys and a brand new remote. I know it's not a huge deal but it saved her £90 on not having to go to the main stealer and get a new set.

I found a big bunch of keys in the local sports centre a couple of days ago. A new Peugeot opener key fob, house keys, a bunch of other expensive looking keys. For a brief moment I did consider doing the old key fob trick in the car park and helping myself to a nice Pug, but decency took over and I handed them to the girl in reception.
