whats your boot?

ive owned a string of cars, most of them being terribly impractical but utterly fabulous to drive. for some reason unknown to me and borne out of no neccesity whatsoever i have now got myself a 5 door bmw 130i. im 28, no kids or woman to entertain or drag their paraphenelia around yet i find something strangely satisfying about having a car with a boot.
being able to simply throw things in their with wild abandon and not worry about it seems to provide me with endless satisfaction. coats, bottles, shoes, inflatable matresses, road maps and a whole host of other relatively useless items all currently co-habitate in there, unlikely to ever get removed.
so, it got me thinking; firstly whether i am alone in having this strange love of having a boot and secondly to ask "whats your boot?" - something in your life you dont need, have no justification for it existing in your life, yet bestows you with a unique sense of satisfaction every time you use it...
first one to say "the wife" loses!

Old receipts for garden equipment I convince myself I needed and then just flung into the shed
a gym bag with all my kit in (boxing gloves, shin pads etc)
a full size spare tyre
a 6 cd changer
a switch to turn off the air suspension
an emergency fuel access panel
a jack
a first aid kit
a toolbox (built into the side)
a wooden prop I use to hold up the car bonnet (gas struts are knackered)

Cars I care about tend to enjoy a relatively empty boot, but when I've had old daily drivers they have often been used to store things like tools, trolley jacks, old planks of wood etc. I think the satisfaction in having a boot you can throw things in is like the satisfaction to be gained from owning a shed!
Not so much a boot (still 16 stuck on a 50cc)so 'under seat storage', but currently a disk lock (for when its in the shed / im riding), some paper towels, a torch, a mini tool kit and some waterproof trousers.

Seems as this fits here, anyone else ever been amazed at the size of the boot on a Nova saloon? It's shockingly big (enough for at least 3/4 bodies)

Sorry, for clarification is this what is IN your boot (i.e. spare wheel, jack, etc) or what IS your 'boot' where boot is a metaphor for something that is not actually a boot but something that is as satisfying to us as your boot is to you?

- 3 x 3" cardboard mortar tubes
- 3 x supports for 3" cardboard mortar tubes
- Multi pocket vest with various bits of fuse, cable ties, scissors, tape in the pockets
- Bag of various 'stuff'

te, cramped horried thing but its the company car so I dont care weekends or evenngs I use my Jaaaaaaaagggggg
which has a boot and nothing in it, not even a body or set of sawn off shooters
In my Mini I have:
1. Road rescue kit from Mini that includes: jump leads, an air compressor and an emergency fluorescent vest.
2. The basic tools, Jack, locking wheel nut, tire iron and a set of screw drivers and allen keys.
3. A rain proof jacket and umbrella.
4. First air Kit.
5. Liter bottle of oil.
6. 4 0.5 liter bottles of water and 2 of coke full fat.
That's all it all mostly fits in the mini road rescue kit bag that is latched down with the clamps and the clips on the bag.
The other question here is what is in the glove box. In mine there is the car books and papers, a pen and a paper pad. I've seen some of my friends cars and every pocket is littered with papers, receipts and the rest.

Items I keep in my boot.
Picnic blanket, angle grinder, old clamp that I angle grinded off, some flip flops, some old shoes, spare clothes, an "in case I don't come home" bag, warning triangle, first aid kit, tent, minor toolkit, spare wheel, k-seal, bottles of water, old wheel trims, my empty oil bucket.
That's about it. I could get loads more in if I wanted to.
ETA: I also have no wife/children commitments, but insist on buying a practical car just in case I am called upon for a road trip.
