Just chucking the last few things away at the tip when a humungous great brand new BMW came slowly along to park. Up until then, mine had been the only car. The driver of the BMW was very elderly and clearly undecided. He was going to park on my left and I thought I had time to get into my car and make a quick getaway. No, he started to drive forward again as if he'd decided to park on my right. As he was now blocking my exit I thought I'd better wait for him to finish. One of the staff at the tip was standing next to me. We didn't speak but just watched the old boy miss the front of mine by a inch or so and then start the most laborious reverse manoeuvre I think I've ever witnessed. Back a bit, forward a bit, back a bit, forward a bit. Then my new friend said simply,

"You'll get a new car out of this."

I like the emphasis on it being a brand new BMW.

Also I didn't really understand the story either. OP you must apreciate the fact that we have no idea about the place you're banging on about and what it looks like.

OP you are Manuel from Fawlty Towers

Why in gods name are you trying to claim five pounds?
Noone in the history of the earth has ever offered a reward of five pounds to liken the OP to Manuel from Fawlty Towers.
That would be an utterly insane thing to do.
The only thing more unfathomable than offering said reward, is to try to claim the reward when it has never been offered. That goes beyond the realms of ridiculousness.
The most bizarre thing I have ever read anywhere. Ever. Just insanity.

That's okay. Some of my stuff hits the mark but quite a lot doesn't. It did make me laugh though.

How much is a straight out of the box 7 series? £50,000? More probably. Mine was the only car parked up and he is going to park next to it. Twenty or so empty spaces and despite being demonstrably useless at parking he is going to park next to me.

So, instead of saying something obvious like, "You'd better move yer car pronto, mate, before Jenson hits it," the tip operative (or whatever they're called) just floats the laconic, "You'll get a new car out of this." It was so dry.

People who want nothing more from your acquaintance than to make you laugh are life's unsung heroes I reckon.

If everyone stops bumping it, it'll just die.

To be fair you just bumped and explained it. Bumped. Explained.
Leave with dignity FFS
You got one laugh. Just count it and pretend it was too trivial to return to the thread!

Two laughs, if you count a mild titter as a laugh.

A mate of mine made a handsome living with a floodlighting business and sometimes I would help him do maintenance work on old lights at football grounds. It wasn't nice work and we would travel around in his very nice new car looking incredibly scruffy. One lunchtime we drove out of a ground in north London and discovered neither of us had enough cash for lunch. We stopped and asked some kids if there was a bank nearby. The head kid told us where it was and added, "When you've robbed it can you come back and give us some?"
