Driving home from work just now, I pulled into our road in Bristol, there is little street lighting so it's pretty dark and it's narrow because of all the parked cars. There is a car coming towards me so I half pull into a space to my left to let the oncoming traffic come in and as I'm starting to pull out again a guy opens up the rear nearside passenger door and starts getting in!

At this point I should say that I'm female and I was on my own in the car. It scared the hell out of me - it was one of those slow motion moments. I started yelling at him to get out (nearly deafened hubby who was on the hands free at the time!) and he says "aren't you a taxi"? No I'm wailing like a banshee here what do you think! What a fking knob!

I have a little bit of sympathy for him but FFS how difficult is it to check the car that you're getting into has a taxi plate on it?

I think he was legit as I passed a taxi slightly further along the road heading his way...

I imagine he got as much of a fright as I did! Still shaking now....

Well yes, but you have to take in account the state that folks are likely to be in when they need a cab... drunk

7 year old black Saab 93 complete with rattly diesel engine!

The irritating thing is that I'm a bit paranoid about personal safety and I had the Saab locking reprogrammed so that I only unlock the driver's door but tonight I'd stopped off for some shopping and slung it on the back seat which meant blipping it twice to unlock all of the doors.

Probably a good time to remind your nearest and dearest about the benefits of locking doors...

Good opportunity to make some money??

Was getting in my car after woprk the other night whilst two guys were failing to find a taxi, one comes over and asked if i wanted to make a quick tenner. Dropped them 1 mile up the road and he gave me a tenner! Result

Then again they could have made me drive them somewhere nice and secluded, tie me up steal my car and fook off! Teners a lot of money to a student though so a risk well taken me thinks!

Hmm...I once hopped into a taxi in Santa Monica after a rather good evening. Ford Crown Victoria, (as they are, mainly).

OF course, so are most of the police cruisers................

I had a very drunk bloke get in an old rover I had years ago. I told him he wasn't in a taxi but he wasn't having any. In the end I had to physically drag him out of the passenger door and leave him sat on the pavement!

Definitely said sporting on it.

What it didn't say however was slow, poorly built and oops, there goes a headlight again...

I don't see why people get upset when people confuse their diesels with taxis. That's what taxis are.

Came out of a club many years ago much the worse for wear. I knew I couldn't manage the walk down the hill to the station so spotting a brightly coloured taxi I lurched over and got in.
"Wickford please mate".

No reaction.

"Take me to Wickford please".

I then looked next to me on the back seat and saw two hats, looked up into the face of a rather large copper in the passenger seat who bellowed "GET OUT!!!"

Didn't need telling twice.

Driving for reward equals no insurance in most cases, be careful!

Also happened to me once, dropped then gfriend off for a girls night out in Dartford. For those not familiar with Dartford, Kent, the town centre has a rather fun one way system that used to (and still does from talking with young un's at work) double as a weekend race track, crossed with cruising circuit. I was in the cruising circuit stretch cued up with many other cars at the lights when two young ladies climb into the back of my car wanting to go to Blackheath. It took every effort of will power to say that I was not a mini cab. The car was a metallic blue Rover 420GSI. The irony, 3 years earlier I had been a mini cab driver so knew exactly how to "cab".
