What 4x4 for peanuts

Call me a big pansy please, but will winter and snow approaching I want to buy a dirt cheap 4x4 for fun and for the snowy days when I cant get to work.

I have a 530i that is simply pants in the snow. And my Integra is going nowhere near salt.

I live in the middle of nowhere, and last winter it once took 4hrs to get to work wheelspinning all the way in my mini.

I could live without a 4x4 but feel I want one.

Whats the cheapest I can buy that should still be reliable?

ive just bought a Frontera LWB 2.3TD for 400 notes in fairly good condition, one months test left, so stuck it in for a MOT and it went straight through!!! i bought it for the same reason as you really, to arse around in the snow and generally abuse. going to do a pay and play in it tommorow so looking forward to see what its capable of.

Same story, Isusu trooper 3.1 td citation. 2 years in now and in spite of some berkley at builder centre driving a forklift into it and me crashing it while logging, it really is the best 4x4 I've ever had

I had a Frontera over in the US, and it was by banger. It got banged up, thrown about, went through harsh winters, and blazing summers... Great car. I'd have one again!

I actually get a kick out off it. It's like driving on the limit but, at reasonably safe speeds. Always remembering to accelerate and not braking

We had a Frontera once brand new, was the old mans company car, it got scrapped as in crushed no longer exists after a year and 17k miles

2 maybe 3 new engines
1 gearbox
4 new ecus
5 new alarm/immobiliser systems
1 complete rewire
Door filled up with water and would never drain
Door fell off twice
2 new doors
st mpg
Fairly st off road/snow

After all of the above Vauxhall picked the car up on a low loader and we asked one of the head blokies at Vauxhall who came to drag it off our drive as it the immobiliser system went again, "what are you going to do with it" his answer
"Push it off a fking cliff"

Awful things, why I would never ever let anyone buy a Frontera without them knowing that lol, it was a year old and the door fell off twice

Oddly I battered the fk out of mine and it never missed a beat... It's not like mine was used for going to the shops either. It was run through water, snow, trails, mud, etc.
