I live in a nice rural village on the edge of the lake district where typically everyone is friendly and helps each other out.

We've been hit pretty hard with snow/ice since Sunday and at one point had about 10" on the ground.

Of course snow melts a bit and forms a layer of ice under the snow, then more snow falls and the situation gets worse.

My house is #2 of 5 in a kind of terrace,

The driveway for these 2 houses comes off a single track lane and goes up a relatively steep gravel driveway. You can either take a right to a flat gravel parking area next to #1 and the garages or carry on up a very steep 90 degree turn and carry on up to a larger gravel parking area at the top.

In the photo the track to the top area goes up around turns on the far left and follows over the rocks behind the first line of trees.

Some time ago a friend mentioned that my neighbour who lives across from the driveway is a complete . They have their own little area at the very start of the driveway the rest of us use for their 2 range rovers and garages.

I've lived here for 5 years and not had any contact with them so couldn't really comment, i said that he and his wife seemed like perfectly respectable folk.

Today my opinion has drastically been altered.

Having spent Monday de-icing the top driveway so that i could get my Clio down from the top i was feeling a particularly high sense of achievement. Not only did i get the Clio down but 3 of my neighbours also managed to get their cars down from the top and out the driveway.

I parked the Clio at the bottom thinking i'd be able to make a getaway for work on Tuesday. Come Tuesday morning we had another 6 or so inches of snow, so i tried in vein to get the Clio down the tiny length of track to the lane by reversing out from the bottom driveway. The Clio swapped ends on me whilst coming down the drive and one of my neighbours helped me push it over the side of the driveway so that other cars could still get in and out and the bd neighbours in question across the road could get their range rovers out.

Jump forward to today and a lot of the snow has melted. I figured i'd go out whilst it was still light and see if i could get the Clio off the driveway, then drive it back in. I got it off the driveway fine but the drive is still to icey to even get the Clio up to the bottom parking area. I figured at least its facing up the driveway now so that my mate with his Subaru can tow me up (and no my Audi S2 does not have a tow bar) so i put the clio back where it was, parked up to one side.

I lock the car and am about to walk back into the house when i notice my neighbour and his wife sat in their range rover. He blips his horn and waves over to me. I run over hoping he's going to offer me a quick tow, instead he tells me i have to my the Clio which is in the way.

I explain that as he had clearly watched it wasn't going anywhere, and besides it had been in roughly the same position for the last few days without any problem, but that if he could give me a quick tow i'd be up to the bottom driveway in 2 minutes. I even had a tow rope handy.

He says that's not going to happen and that i have to move it. I say i can't.

At this point his bh wife starts yelling at me saying its my fault for getting it stuck there, so i just kind of shrug and say there is little i can do but if they can give me a tow it will all be sorted.

She gets out their car and starts shouting some st at me. I say that i can't see the problem as there is plenty of space to get out the driveway and go to walk back into the house. Her husband goes to get out and she starts following me shouting again and then i hear "we're going to call the police".

Now i just kind of thought WTF at that point. I've spent half an hour pissing about in the snow to try and move the car and its now in a position where it can be towed up the drive. Not only am i not in the way, they can clearly get out and have the necessary kit to give me a tow and get me out the way if they feel i have left my car in a compromising position.

My response was something along the lines of "Be my guest! You can call the police if you want but im sure they'll laugh their tits off at you when they turn up to find a Clio parked up on private property to one side with ample space for you, in your 2 range rovers, to get out of the drive having just refused me a tow."

She ranted on a bit as i walked off so i told her now to be so fking rude.

What is it with people these days? I'd have happily given someone a tow if I'd have been able to and on many occasions have i given people a hand or a push if they're stuck.

Miserable old s!

build a snowman next to it, or keep building and army of them standing in the way.

Sneak out later and let the tyres down on their cars!
Alternatively if you don't mind spending a couple of quid get a ton of sand dumped infront of their cars!

Tenner says he pulls out of that spot on full lock, can't make it, brakes, skids, and takes out the NS corner of your clio. And it will be your fault.

Sounds like a bit of a bell end - judy ignore them and don't go out of your way to help them or consider them in the future.

What she meant was 'We've got a Range Rover and it's bigger and worth more than your car so get out of our way'. Let us hope their turkey has Salmonella in it.

By contrast, when I was having trouble with a flat battery and I needed to set off to photograph a wedding, one of my neighbours offered to lend me his car for the day.

(Wanna move?!)

Miserable ccensoredts - Now go and rev the tits off your clio into the early hours trying to get it up the drive.

When they inevitably come and complain again at the noise and burning clutch smells, simply smash the bloke in the face with a handy shovell and ask the whinging bh if she wants to give you a 'tug' or shut the fcensoredk up and mind her own business.

thumbup Happy to have been of assistance. Happy Christmas wink

In all honesty I can't see one of those old Range Rovers being worth much more than the Clio!

Fair point, but it's ego as well. I remember a Hyacinth Bucket type in a restaurant who said loudly to a waitress 'We like good service, we've got a Bentley you know'. Husband looked uncomfortable. Outside the Bentley was one of those S-reg ones worth about £11K...

I do feel for the OP.

I lived near some like that once, middle aged woman (what is it with middle aged and woman these days?!) who used to go mental if anyone parked in front of her house in "her" space.

The houses were all terrace, plenty of parking and free for all.

She apparently, according to the people that had lived there a while, had the police caution her about wasting police time, because she used to call them out all the time about people "blocking her driveway" (there was no driveway or dropped kerb, just pavement to house..)

As hard as it is to ignore, and believe me nothing feels worse than "letting them get away with it" when you have just had a pair of irriational fkwits have a go at you, but as has been said, go chill and ignore. Hopefully they will have a joint heart attack or something and die painfully in a hedge.

Argh those people make my blood boil! How could one even manage to say that in that situation it's totally irrelevant to the situation!

yes

They're probably the ones still bhing and fussing over the Clio at the bottom of the road, with nothing better to do with their self-important & angry lives.
