Looking around on my daily commute this morning I was thinking what is the oldest make/model of car being widely used as a daily driver?

I suspect the top 2 are:
Mk2 VW Golf
E34 BMW 5-series

What do you reckon?

I reckon I see more MGBs as daily drivers than mk2 Golfs these days.

Mid-nineties Toyota Avensis' and Carinas seem to stand up to abuse pretty well and are still regular sights around here..

ETA: Thinking about it, they're not really 'old' though. getmecoat

Also W124 mercs.

And aircooled VWs.

I'm sure if you came up with some formula weighing age against number in daily use, the Minor must come out on top. I know I see more Minors than, say, MK1 Fiestas in an average week.

Old Jap stuff and Land Rovers seem to be the ones of note.
Most mass produced common stuff seems to have a lifespan of 15 years before it's done. Even mk2 Golfs, Novas, Metros etc seem to be few and far between now having long since passed economical repair.

Bloke near me uses a '65 Ford Corsair. Parks it on the road.

Good boy.

Atcherlly, I'll be going up that way in a minute and if it's there I'll take a photo.

but with air cooled VWs, it's not that they're reliable

it's just that the owners have rebuilt them at least once, if not more!

they weren't all that good to begin with.

I suppose your question was popular, rather than well made. Old Toyotas are just around still because I guess their owners will keep them as long as it's economical, rather than any cult status.

Noticed over christmas just how many BMW E30s there still are knocking around. Considering the youngest chrome-trimmed ones are 23 years old now, that's got to be quite remarkable - you don't see the same number of old Audi 80s rattling around.
