How often I've heard this, makes me a little crazy..

"I can't get off my drive"

OK, so get a shovel and go and clear it.

"Shovel? I don't have one. Or a spade, they're used by little people who grow vegetables for Tesco aren't they?"

OK, so get some salt, table or sea salt's fine. Chuck some on the drive and get here.

"Salt? I don't have any. All my meals come from the Tesco Value range ready cooked and seasoned. I've got some vinegar that I use on my Micro chips?"

Aaargh!

yesAnd how much salt do you think people have at home? I used a 6kg* tub on a cleared 10m garden path yesterday.

Costco - brilliant.

Tesco Value range ready cooked and seasoned meals have plenty of salt in them, lasagne might be a little slimy for optimum grip though, prob. best pick a casserole or something. Should work out cheaper than bags of salt.

You're probably right, but I don't have a cat and I do cure bits of pig...

It made me roar with laughter a couple of years ago in moderate snow when a rather prissy neighbour of mine (bit of a Margot Ledbetter - 'Good Life' type), made her contribution to clearing the communal private road with a small tub of sea salt for cooking. This was when I was spreading 20 Kg of grit and clearing up with a snow shovel. Some people have no idea! It was thought that counted I suppose.

Shovelled mine and salted it on Wednesday after the snow had finished. However it dropped to -9 making the salt useless and leaving a nice layer of ice. Took me 50min and my mate with his 4x4 and a tow rope to get me clear of the bank.

So ps off back to your nice level drive and come back when you know what your on about.

my next door neighbour cant get his car on the drive way for st.

He clearly doesnt understand that the throttle is a valve not a switch.

We wait to hear his exhaust then rush to the window to witness him:-

A)repeatedly try, but fail to get the whole car on the driveway.
B)misjudge how far over he is and hit his other car on his driveway.
C)wheelspin manically and still not get it any closer to the house.
D)give up slam the door and mope off into his house.

I take great pride in being able to get on and of the driveway first time every time (like sex panther)- then again I have quattro and know what level of grip/momentum is required to perform this simple task.

I look forward to more shenanigans tonight!

people are just too lazy

i hate this obsession with grit at the moment - people blaming councils for not gritting their roads. do they not realise how many miles of roads there are, and how much council tax would rise if the council did grit everything? Tehy're doing a great job keeping most major roads clear, if you ask me.

If everyone spent one hour with a spade and a stiff broom, and just did the bit outside their house, we wouldnt have people falling over all over the place

A couple of points :

a) You clearly dont have a big drive ( an no I am not starting drive envy !!)

b) Even if we could get off ( or down) our drive the three roads to the main road are covered in ice snow so we still wouldnt get anywhere. Or get back for that matter (in our normal cars)

c) You clearly have never tried to drive anything rwd/ automatic / with any power.

d) This is why we have a defender as well at the others !!!

Rant over we dont all live in small boxes with 3 or 4 car drive you know.

I was told of this morning by this little old man for gritting my door steps! He told me that if he was to slip, he could sue me because i am liable because i have gritted. If i leave it alone & he slips, he couldn't sue because it's nature apparently. I asked him what business would he have coming into my private property anyway & on that note he buggered of!

My drive is 1.7 miles. Go ahead and shovel some if you wish. I'm staying in bed.
