Hi,(again)
i have had a change in circumstances since the last thread,
im going to be learning to drive towards the end of the year and my dad said i can buy my car before,
i have been looking at hatchbacks this time,
i was looking at a 2000 model fiesta zetec-s.
The quote for insurance on this car on a provisional was 2100 per year, i was just wondering
A, how reasonable this is for a first car
B, If maybe you had some alternatives
C, if this is a good car to consider as a first car.
money is an object now but i do have a job!!

On a provisional? Thats quite bad tbh, im a learner at the moment and on my MG ZR 1.4 (same power 0.1 second 0-60 difference) im £1200~ or something as a learner, and 1700-1800 once I pass.
I got a quote for a mk5 zetec-s and fully comp was £1900, AFTER I pass. I reckon if your looking into that much for a quote, get something cheaper and slower.
Or get a BMW 330d or an audi S4.

I had a focus to learn in and as a first car. 2005 1.6 was £1200 on provisional and £2500 when i passed with mum on as a driver. I disagree with whoever said you will crash it as it is fairly quick for a first car. They are quick, but don't drive like an arse and you'll be fine. Quote isn't bad for the sort of car you're after. May i ask who it's with?
To be honest buddy, as you are a learner, just get yourself a small engined small car, get that experiance, put a few dents and scratches as you go along, after a year or so then upgrade to a bigger engine and a newer car.
as for the insurance, allways go shoping for the best quote, look everywhere, and not just the comparison web sites, once you find the cheapest, just bite the bullet for the first year.

You can! it was will Quinn, Im not one of these little chavs with my arse glued to a fake seat cover in a saxo!,
i have driven before and really liked the 07' fiesta 1.4 style,

Try Direct Line with a parent on the policy. They were great to me and lovely to deal with. Try Norwich Union if you want to murder someone. They give good prices but are crap to deal with. I know a lot of people suggest getting older cheaper cars first off and i can see why, but i have no regrets about starting in a focus. Lovely car and did what i needed it to. Never drove beyond the law or my limits and (so far) nothing has gone wrong. It's also good to have power steering and other mod cons you don't get with a Micra!

You don't appear to have quoted what your insurance will go up to once you pass. It may well rise by 50% once you change from a provisional to a full license - so be careful!i think thats what im going to go for, but with direct line because although theyre quote was a bit more expensive its probably worth it,

First car 1.4 astra and £1500 fully comp on my own, the closest one after that was around £2100
I had other mates same age, same type of car and they all seemed to be with Quinn
Still a high premium I grant you but for the area I lived in not surprising!
its not just the engine they look at security and cosy of parts to have a look at the insurance groups find something very low. a zetec s is nice but a bit pricey remember when you pass your premium will go up alot! Could you afford a new car maybe one with a free insurance deal? if they still are offering them

Fiesta, Corsa (Maybe an Astra,) Clio. All are good first cars. Like i said, get a quote with a parent on the insurance, that tends to make it drop by a bit. I think having a nice first car makes you a more cautious driver as you're more scared of damaging it compared to a rust bucket.

My mate did crash his zetec s last week and wrote it off, only passed in December. But everyone is different.
