The 'Rabbit Run'. B4176 nickname

Theres a road in Shropshire the B4176, that is known locally as the 'rabbit run'. Its been known as the 'rr' for donkeys years but do you think I can find an explanation for its nicknamed the 'rabbit run'.
Wondering if theres any locals on here with enough miles under their belt so to speak who can recall how the road got its nickname?

there was road called that when i was a kid coming back to raf west rayhnam from kings lynn

I think it's because it's a bit of a back road shortcut, but I stand to be corrected.

The rabbit run used to be my daily commute when I was young, stupid and possessed a 750cc motorbike. Great road....

Too right!

I found that my bike would wheelie over the last crest before the long downhill to the T junction at the Himley end on my way home (Kingswinford) if I was doing in excess of about 110MPH and was hard on the power. I tried it once with a pillion and nearly flipped the bike.

Fun! But I was in my 20's and therefore immortal.

When working in London you discover the pathfinders (those who try anything to keep moving rather than sit in jams) refer to their favourite shortcuts as rat runs.

My parents first drove it in the 60's and thats what they called it.

Never been caught out on it myself but as I travelled back from Telford on Monday there was a 1 car 1 van collision just near the 30mph bend.
Biggest problem with it these days seems to be the flooding that occurs after not much rain.
Still no closer to finding out how it got its nickname though.

my guess is there might have been a pub called the rabbit round there many years ago.

i'm going to ask my friends grandad if he knows when i see him next.

Just stumbled upon this topic and i actually live on the Rabbit Run lol.. have done for years!

It's called the Rabbit Run coz years ago it was more of a lane than the main road it is today and was full of rabbits. Everyone used to go rabbiting down it so it got the nickname 'Rabbit Run'.

I only signed up to answer this lol. Don't even know what this is for, i'm guessing motorbiking lol , we've had quite a few bikers over the years breaking down here and we've helped them. xx

Ah well I can explain that one. Donkeys don't actually observe earth time but instead opt for a timing system based on the orbit of Neptune, or 164.79 Earth years. Coincidentally no donkey has ever reached the age of one.
