Neighbours car (diesel Renault kiddy carrier thing) split a pipe on what I presume to be the high pressure end of the fuel system and thus dumped a considerable amount of fuel whilst it sat idling for some time all over the road and path, madly enough they managed to drive off in the end (limping) and leave fuel all the way along the route back to the dealers.

Anyhow, the stench was bad, cats were walking through it and getting their legs covered, people walking through it and treading it everywhere, so, I went and got a spill kit that I have in my works van, I mopped up all the diesel and put down an absorbant sheet to get the rest, after doing this I got a bit pissy as it was outside their window so I knocked on the door,

"is your car leaking diesel because the road is a mess"

"yeah, its leaking, but I think its ok now"

"Ok, I just thought I'd see if you was ok, I have done the spill kit thing blah blah"

"ok" shut the door!

So, I've just been out, specialist disposal bags at the ready and cleaned everything up and disposed of the contamination at the local recycling center.

They remained in the living room which looks out to the front where I was cleaning up.

Jesus, if it was me, I'd be out there doing the above and more, the road is a mess and the top half is block paved which now has two great black tyre lines along its length.

Report to the council?

I made the mistake of presuming they were out, they were not, they had hid the exxon valdez around the back of the house.

I would imagine they were a little embarassed, especially if they planned to clean it up themselves?

However, fair play to you for doing it anyways. Next time stand in front of their window with your arms folded tutting and nodding towards the spill while tapping your foot impatiently. smile

BRILLIANT!

I would have left have asked them if they had bad backs when they say no i'd just say "only wondering because you left this mess here!"

Definitely report to the council or the police. Not out of spite but because that stuff is lethal to bikers and it needs clearing. Some on a roundabout near my work dropped an experienced biker driving sensibly on a tourer.

Exactly. Council and police, for the reasons above. It's lethal stuff to hit on a bike, and causes hundreds of bike accidents every year. Not really accidents with tts like your neighbours around though, are they?

I believe it is highways agency who deal with this, call them and tell them whats happened. They should be able to legally deal with them. Accidents do happen but to make no effort to clean it up is not on.

Here you go. It is the council that deals with them not highwaysas I thought. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/Where....

I think he would get the message instead of being so "nice",as you clearly are upset or you wouldnt of started this topic.smile

It's nice to see some people still have a sense of civic duty rather than using the current "not my fault so I'll ignore it" attitude these days! clap

Then again, considering the way this country works you'll probably get done for doing the clear-up rather than reporting it ...rolleyes

As above. Girlfriends brother-in-law shattered his ankle after falling off his bike due to desel left by buses, so its no trivial matter to knowingly leave a trail of the stuff.

I assume as they own a people carrier they have kids. Amazing how many folk lacking in the most basic common sense seem to deem themselfves sutible parents. Morons.

And no youre not a mug smile
