Im sick of being scammed. I had to get my supension , a tyre and my steering rack sorted becasue of the crappy roads in my area! Even there attempts to fix the road are pathetic. I'm going to do something about it by declaring my car SORN but still having it insured. I will go out sometimes as well.

I'm tired of paying for the other 80% of what road tax is actually used for. I pay road tax to use the road not pay for some stty non profitable transport systems thats a joke !

If I go to court I will say all this and request the data of what road tax is actually used for. If the seize my car they can keep it its probably worth less than the tax thier asking for it.

People always moan but do nothing. Im doing something and I'm going to stand up for myself on this one and every other motorist who pays a tax based on how much CO2 thier car emits... don't get me started tax depending on how much CO2 BLAH BLAH fk YOU GORDON BROWN !

There's one thing that costs more than road tax, the fines for not paying it wink

Don't let you mind wander - it's far too small to be let out on its own.

Swapping to a pre '73 car would be far more pleasant.

There's one thing that hurts more than paying road tax:

No, just ask a mod to move the thread to SP&L.

The reason nothing gets done about it is clear by all the responses. You all probably complained at one stage , but you do NOTHING. When will you do something, when no money at all is spent on the roads ?

Will you really though? Or will you simply vent your spleen on a forum and then pay up when the time comes for renewal? I suspect the latter. If, however I am wrong in my assumption, Good Luck! (you'll probably need it...)

Its not called road tax, its vehicle excise duty, or VED.
Its just another tax, its not ring fenced for road maintenance sadly.

It's easy - just get a pre-73 classic. thumbup

Seriously - you can have a 5l V8 that looks lovely and not pay a penny in VED (lots of fuel tax though hehe). Plus, as a youngster insurance on a classic will be a lot less than an equivalent engined/performance modern car.

Probably because as Brits it isn't in our nature. Hell, even a bit of rain has put pay to uprisings in the past! Oh, and because your 'protest' will achieve nothing more than being chased by DVLA, Police etc.

Don't get me wrong, the government's attitide towards the everyday motorist is apalling. But I doubt that enough people would ever boycott paying road tax to change the government's opinions and delusional CO2 obsession...
