Have a car for sale here in Oz up for $4500.

Car listed yesterday afternoon. Within 2 hours get the response 'is the car still for sale?'. Quite brief but hey, you never know. So respond with 'Yes it is, if you are interested feel free to call me tomorrow to discuss it'.

So wake up this morning to this from my hopefully soon to be good friend Racheal Dolphin:

'hi mate, thanks for swift, i will like to offer you $4,700, i am buying this for my Dad as a 50th birthday gift, i am a petroleum engineer and i am on rig right now, i have been trying to reach you but i later discover that our phone is currently scramble due to the problem of service provider please bear with me .I can only pay through paypal at the moment as i dont have access to my bank account online, but i have
it attached to my paypal account, and this is why i insisted on using paypal to pay,all i will need is your paypal email address to make the payments,as you dont have a paypal account yet,its pretty easy to set one up at www.paypal.com.au , i will be expecting your email.I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payments has been
sorted,'

I haven't responded to it yet...

tell them you can't release the car until the paypal money clears into your bank and you've cancelled your account to protect yourself

Why is he offering more than you have asked? I always find it strange that someone would offer more money without even seeing the car.
Sounds like a scam, make sure the money is in your account for 7 days before releasing the car, and be wary of making payments for shipping the car...
Good Luck

Take the money, then keep rearranging and no-showing with the pickup agent. Scammer won't try and pull funds and run till he has the car. This should give you time to move the money elsewhere.

Good suggestions - keep them coming.

I havent responded as yet. Part of me wants to do the Paypal thing, take the cash, close the account then give them the car, but the grief if it goes wrong could be a real pain. The other part is just play silly buggers with email till they get bored.

I vote play silly buggers via email, the other stuff can require real dedication and time, not to mention an element of risk. Make them jump through hoops and see if you can get them to send you some photos/custard test etc.

e mail explaining your fears, ask that they send half the funds first, wait till clear, then arrange for the send wave of money, this way they are laying a deposit to hold the car,

Had the same email when selling my girlfriends Cooper.... sure it was the same name too?! They'll never pay, it'll be a fake paypal email that gets sent. If you do get one double check your actual account and i bet nothings been put in.
Makes your blood boil eh?!

Really? Offering $4700 for a $4500 car?

That in itself would make me steer well clear.

It's all borderline, all except for the $200 extra Aussie dollars on offer. Nobody in the history of the world has ever voluntarily paid more than the asking price for a second hand car. Well, except maybe Chris Evans.

If your time is worth less than $200 over 7 days then maybe you want to play it, but it's not, is it? You'll find a cash buyer soon enough.

Also, girls on oil rigs. Is that allowed?

+1

Check the IP addresses in the email headers. They'll be from Nigeria.

Maybe your make a model is actually worth twice as much and this lady is really wanting to snap this offer up?
